Is this really necessary

I have had several people tell me I should buy spare lower arms for my new MXT.They say that they keep the spares with different coils already attached so that when they want to switch coils it is much faster and easier.I don't understand. Is it that difficult to take one coil off and put another back on,and does it really take that long,I mean are they really in that big of a hurry or what?I don't change coils that often and it only takes 2 or 3 minutes when I do.Am I missing something?

If you don't mind taking the time to do it, that is fine, but it is worth the extra $12 to have the coils mounted on a lower rod to me especially when my fingers are cold and I don't have to mess with the bolt.

I hear that, but cold is not really an issue here, and if it does get cold it is only that way 3 or 4 days,in fact I ran the a/c yesterday to cool the house down before I went to bed last night, probably this evening too., but that's why I live in Texas other than the fact I was born here and will never leave.Going to an outdoor concert tonight, guess I need to quit posting and make sure I have some clean shorts and tee shirts.

I've done and do it both ways as I have several more coils than rods. However, I do keep the coils I use most mounted and ready. It is a bit easier and quicker, but certainly not necessary. One of those "you pay your money (or not) and make your choice" things.

Wait till you loose 1 or both rubber washers in high or thick grass:ranting: and don't have any spares. No problem when you have the lower rod and an extra coil already set up. Thats a lot better than having to walk back to your vehicle and get spare parts. Right Larry. HH

It's just a preference. I like having my coils on the rod and it's so easy to change. It's just a preference and shows how lazy we are. It is a lot faster when changing coils. To answer your question, No it's not necessary, just convenient. HH, Nancy

It's also convenient to have a spare lower rod (with coil) if the rod in use should get fractured.
Hasn't happened to me yet (knock on wood) but I like being prepared, especially if it's a hike-in search.
Oh, I carry duct tape with me too. Lots of uses for that........LOL

Duct tape! Oh yeah , I have lots of uses for duct tape. Doesn't everyone?! :bouncy:

Nice arsenal. Are you getting in the mood to swing those things? I love it. Hey, I love your wood flooring also. Yeah, it's a girl thing. HH, Nancy

Over the years I've pursued this hobby and been participating on forums I've come across several threads pertaining to wearing through coils due to sandy beaches and one where a fellow had managed to inflict a significant slice through the bottom of a coil with a sharp stone. Covers are much less expensive than coils - so I use them.

[size=large]just a couple months ago i was sticking my shovel into the ground next to me and drove it into the top of my 8" coil. that could have cost me dearly but missed the wiring. so you never know when something can happen. i keep seperate rods attached to their own coils so i was ready if my coil was ruined.
you also wear out the washers so it's good to have spares if nothing else. jmp
