Is this possible with the E-Trac ?

One question please is, do you dig all new types of pennies, what I mean for example is pennies from about the 1970's and onward including new US zincs "or" have you divised a plan(E-Trac Pattern) to knock out new pennies and only dig old ones and old silver dimes or is this just totally immpossible to do ??

That is one reason why I am thinking about buying an E-Trac for more precise discrimination to see if I can surgically knock out annoying new pennies better and only dig the old ones and sliver dimes. I would like to know if this is possible with the E-Trac ?? Thank you.

(I know this is not the right Forum for this but I also am wondering if the DFX or F75 can do this as well.)

(I have an Minelab GP 3000, Musketeer Advantage now, and X-Terra 70(with the Pistol Probe) and I am now thinking about buying an E-Trac.)

I have not tried to do it but it should be possible since zinc pennies and copper pennies do not read the same. Zincs read lower. The only problem with your idea is that you will also be eliminating most Indian Head Pennies as they do read down in the Zinc Penny range. I would think that you would be better off allowing the Zinc Penny range to be detected but only dig the ones that the depth meter shows to be 5" or deeper. Since the zincs are a modern coin they should be shallower than Indian Head Pennies. JMHO

No. You can avoid Zincs if you are not worried about Indian Head pennies. Zincs are easy to avoid. Copper pennies mix right in with dimes, both silver and clad. The DFX can be ran in 3Khz, but the silver dime comes in around 80-81 and the copper penny comes in at 79-80. Way to close, and that is in air testing. Put them in the ground and all bets are off. I really doubt the F7 would do any better. And the deeper you get, the more skewed the numbers are and you start listening to tones. I do not think they make a detector that can reliably tell dimes from copper pennies. I may be wrong though.

then my E-Trac on separating pennies because of the changing ferrous numbers and I don't dig screw caps with the Explorer II. I just know that I can cover more ground with the E-Trac and it resets quicker in trash, so in parks less then 60 years old I only dig targets that have a conduct number of 40 and above to avoid aluminum trash.

OK thanks to BC everyone else, sorry for the delayed reply !!!

"...my Explorer II does a better job then my E-Trac on separating pennies because of the changing ferrous numbers and I don't dig screw caps with the Explorer II."

So I heard that the Explorer II (or SE) has better surgical separation of targets (like different pennies) than the E-Trac because of the changing ferrous numbers because the E-Trac has a fixed ferrous number at around at 12 (I think) ?? (I wonder why they fixed this number on the E-Trac and it floated around on the II and SE ??)

Bit of advice to any of you guys contemplating coming over the pond to Europe to detect some time. Change your bad habits and get your screens opened up because your going to find diddly squat over here detecting like that. How on earth can you go knocking out all those items and be comfortable that you are not missing items of jewellery for instance or nice early English / foreign coins that might have been dropped centuries ago on your fair land. I cannot believe that you guys only have what is to us fairly modern coinage to find in your public places. How on earth can you be sure your not discriminating out all sorts of lovely finds with your home made patterns. The most successful detectorists over here run their screens wide open or nearly so and use their ears for the sounds and not rely on their eyes on the screen. We dont do economical detecting where we only dig what might be good we dig everything that sounds remotely good.

Tony,

We have A LOT of modern trash in most of out parks. Many of us have to be economical in our digging, or rent a bulldozer to dig with! As for modern coinage, you guys are blessed with vast amounts of old coinage we are not. Heck, anything 100 years old is a find for most of us! Detecting over here is VASTLY different.
