Is this new commercial these guy are swinging MXT,s :detecting::rofl::nono:

I watched one of these shows so far. The bald guy is using an MXT Pro. Each of them have a different detector. There are several metal detecting shows on TV now. They are fun to watch but also suggest that if a landowner lets a person detect their property...#1 they should get 20% to 30% of the sale that IMMEDIATELY follows the detecting...#2 they should expect Thousands$$ in their cut alone. I find it hard to ask people for permission as it is and soon you will have to offer money up front or promise lots of profit afterwards to get permission.
Its the same way with getting permission to rifle or bow hunt private property. Many people are leasing hunting land and what is not leased is already heavily hunted by friends and family. Since so many pay for hunting rights, what makes landowners think they should just let someone tread on their land without forking over big $$$?

Aaron you couldn't have said it better. These new stupid shows are the reason many of us feel that you actually have to offer some kind of "reward" for looking on anothers land. Most of us do this for sheer fun....for the excitement of the hunt...to find something that would otherwise probably NEVER be found again without the use of our detectors....NOT for profit. People may think they need to be rewarded thousands for looking on their land when in fact we'd be lucky to find a few silver coins worth $20. Here.....Here's your 20%....$4.00.
I too enjoy watching the shows.....but wonder how many are somewhat "staged". Afterall....one of the shows has a wrestler as the main character...Need I say more? BOOM BABY! I'm gonna hurl!!

There is another one called Diggers that, albeit has annoying personalities at times, is much more realistic and I have not seen an episode where they bargained for a price to detect a spot. Even though I watch most of the metal detecting shows, this is the only one I have respect for. I assume they are digging the relics for prosperity or donation to the museums and historical establishments that they almost always have on their show. From what I see, they don't seem to rape and pillage private properties but they contribute to preserving history. They dig a lot of junk and show quite a bit of the junk. Their "good" finds make me feel awesome because I can completely relate to the same finds and I'm not a "professional". They get excited over stuff that I have already found so its cool pointing stuff out on the show to my wife and say 'Remember helping me dig that same series coin, ect?'. Yes, My wife helps me dig holes sometimes. Less often these days since we started our own family and have 1 with 1 on the way. Their Bdays will be within a week of a year apart.(gypsy twins I've been told?) :surprised:

Diggers ^^^
Then there is a new show called swamp diggers which has Dustin Taylor in it. Dustin Taylor first appeared on Storage Hunters before starting his own show Swamp Hunters.

Storage Hunters ^^^ Same guy as in the show Swamp Hunters and has a VERY annoying personality in this show. His 'other' personality in Swamp hunters is definitely different but still not the most likable person.

The one with the retired wrestler started out as American Digger and after two of the main actors left the owner brought in his family to continue the show and renamed it to Savage Family Diggers.

Savage Family Diggers ^^^ Showing the new cast of his wife and 2 sons.

These are all actors per say. STUPID stupid shows. They make it look so rewarding and they have no clue as to what they are portraying to the public that don't know any better. STUPID!

Got better things to do with my time than watching those shows

I watch better metal detecting shows on youtube, real people doing real things for the sake of fun

I could not have said it better!!! I cannot stand these stupid reality shows. I run a small detector shop myself and I am seeing all kinds of people comming in that watch these shows and think they are going to get rich quick. The only positive thing these shows have done is to open up a new kind of buyer for the metal detecting market which are the"lazy people". I am shocked at the type of people that have darted into my store. Just not your average history buff or coin shooter type. I do not get it and they are shocked when they look at the prices of the detectors too. Oh well, Tim

You said it TOPO, YouTube has some very good stuff.

Years back the Peoria paper did an article about metal detecting and they had Larry and I pictured in the article along with some others and then interviewed us and at the time we had a Whites round gold pan filled to the brim with clad coins (which a picture of the finds) we had found that month. Boy did it make for a lot of greedy people and off they went with their new detectors in had with a shovel. YES, a BIG shovel. We would see holes the size of turkey platters. It was terrible. Once we were hunting and sure enough, they had been there and left an arrow in their hole and one hole was left with a beautiful lead battleship toy. Larry came home with that beauty and it's VERY old and in excellent shape. These people don't want the items, they want the money! Greed AND stupidity! OK, I'm sorry.........I'll step down from my soapbox. My blood is boiling. I think you get my point. HH, Nancy

i love the values they put on there crap ,there is a cow pasture near my house filled with the same stuff .i am lucky if once a year i find something cool (as in not worth a ton of money but historicly valuable) i spend a lot of time in the off season doing research. savage dude kills me the most -all staged bull sh?*t

I agree with you Nancy we have two guys that go to some of are parks and use big shovels and do not fill in the holes we have ask the to do so and they said go to H we told them if they did not do it then non of us will be able to MD in the parks they told us they did not Cair so we reported them to the park commission we gave them the plate # off thar car and the county sent them a letter stoping them from MD all county parks I think they did get it we did not see them out in the past 8 months and I hope to never see them again just a couple of duds will spoil this hobby for the rest of us

Way to go Diggerdick and I thank you for your involvement. If they would have kept going, the parks in the area would probably be closed to detecting. It's people like that, that ruin it for the others. HH, Nancy

I dairy and crop farm and own several hundred acres of woods, i don't really care to hunt with anything other than a detector. please note i like guns and venison just not a fan of getting it from woods to dinner table! Anyways i WONT lease my land to me that means i more or less trade my rights to certain land for money. I prefer to tell the local kids or any one else interested in hunting that, a; it's first come first serve, b; when i tell you, YOU can hunt a certain 40 that means just YOU and c; if you forget to show up and help move some cattle or stack some hay i won't forget and next year someone with a better memory will be in 'your stand'. Haven't stacked a bale of hay or had to dress or cut up a deer in years, made several good friends, that by the way knew of some pretty cool spots to detect. Anyways moral of story is don't be scared to ask permission, i'm not greedy been offered several thousand dollars to lease land and i always pass. Id rather let kid next door get out in woods learn a few things and mow some hay rather than let some whoop de do with too much money run around my woods. Same goes for detecting lots people could use a hand with yards gardens fences you name it and don't a give a hoot bout what ever change aka treasure we may or may not find in their yard, heck some might even tell you a 'treasure story or mention where grand pa used to hide shine money'. I always enjoy it on opening day of deer season when jr shows up beaming with just as proud dad to show first buck and i'm happy to tell em where best spot to hunt is. Being a good friend and a good neighbor has gotten me into more places than the fanciest permission request or percentage offer ever could come close to. People know i detect and will come to me and say when i was kid that bar up the rd yeah back in the 30's when i was a kid that used to be on the other side of rd or i was back in so an so's place and seen bunch of old bottles back the old rock pile. 'I'm a sucker for old glass!' Anyways always ask permission worst they can say is no nothing to be scared of. On the other hand I'm not scared to turn trespassers in. No matter what you hunt, happy hunting!

farmerboy, your a dying breed. America needs many more of your kind. I live in a small quiet rural town in North Missouri and a couple, maybe 3, decades ago your outlook on life was widespread and common around here. Now, there are fewer farmers because you have to have 1000+ acres to get by on so the small farms sell out. I know a couple 'small farmers' yet, but they actually 'work to farm'. They clock in elsewhere and farm when they are 'off work'. Thats awesome that you give the kids in the area a place to hunt and give em some chores to earn it. They are a better person from both experiences! It teaches them how to barter without money, make and KEEP relationships, care for neighbors, ect.
