is this a Revolutionary War Musket ball?

On April 27th 2011 me and my brother were metal detecting In Belleville nj Park, where Mill St intersects with Park Drive, the Battle of Second River, September 1777. The Battle occurred on September 27 near the junction of Second River and the Passaic River. This is now the Belleville - Newark Border.

What you guys think? Is it real?
 
Id have to say it is. If it looks like poop smells like poop than it must be poop
 
The oxidizing looks too much like iron from the pics. Did they make iron musket balls? I live in MA. and have found my share of musket balls, they were all made of lead. Hope its real, that is an interesting conversation piece as well as part of the history in your area.
