Looking good to me. Crush it and pan it.
You'll know for sure. Don't look like pyrites.
I found a piece similar but in white quartz near silver City.
After looking closer I do see pyrites upper left.

No it is not embedded in the rock looks like you went to pizza hut and used sprinkle cheese along with crushed red pepper.
