It could be or it might be an encapsulated piece of rusted metal.
What location did you find it in ?

In a back garden, parts of the outer layer flaked off a bit but the rest is solid
It's a good bit heavier than a rock of similar size

Did it "Ding" on your detector? I think the only true way you can tell is to have it tested, and I'm not sure where you go or how much it costs. But if it is......AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:bouncy::cheers::detecting:

I'll keep my fingers crossed that it is!!!

I think Kellyco had an article about Meteorites. I'm not sure if it said anything about where you can get them tested. It was on their left hand side of the page I do believe though. I'd LOVE for it to be a meteorite! That would be awesome! I hope someone can help you to know if it is or isn't.

I'm living in Ireland though, it'll be even harder to find somewhere to test it. I made a post on a meteorite forum, i'll see how that goes first

Any university that teaches Geology should have the means to test and see if it is a meteorite. Hope it is. Those two guys that had a show on tv took some of their finds to a university and they checked them with a scanning electron microscope. I think there may be chemical test or gas chromotography tests of some particles ground off the rock in question. Good luck.
