i have been getting a lot of falsing on the beach with my bug pro 11in coil if i hit the sand with the coil it goes off and didnt even try to run in AM the noise is madness to my ears, wondering if there is something wrong with machine i ground balance on dry sand and cant run at 100% gain the sand underneath is wet salt sand would cause it do i have to turn the gain down?

just cant seem to get it running smooth on the sand dry on top wet underneath.

does anyone run in AM what settings do you use?

any help would be appreciated.

cheers!

ps anyone got a Garrett AT Pro if so any feedback?

You may need to wind the gain down a bit with the 11 inch coil, also try ground balancing to the wet sand beneath the dry. ( scrape the dry off)

Yep try ground balancing in the wet and turning down the sensitivity. Does the vdi jump around allot or is it hitting in the 40 range all the time? If it is constantly hitting around 40 it could be high concentrations of black sand. Very hard to hunt in the black sand but what I do is turn up the disc to completely block out that range. I'm sure I loose depth and small gold but the beach where I have to do this is laden with black sand and a really good tourist beach.
Good luck!
Oh yea do you hunt parallel to the water or up and down the beach?

Thanks Guys

yes i only thought about the dry sand wet underneath when i was writing that up top, its a flat beach, its been doing it a lot lately on most beaches there is some black sand but its not like some beaches i know where they mined the sand it has some i know when digging i do come across little veins of it, it is all over the place the VDI when its falsing jumps around, so only thing i can do is balance in the wetter sand and turn gain down, i want to be flat out 100% all the time :detecting: i did back it off to say 70% gain it slowed some but didn't balance in the sand underneath will give that a go and see how i get on!!

will give all the suggestions a go and see what happens thanks heaps!

just one more question what detector will run flat out in those type conditions? wet materialised sand E trac ? i was thinking about getting a AT Pro don't know if that will work either good reports on the AT Pro anyone used one? its not that i don't like the bug but i see that the little screws holding things together are starting to rust and its down the beach all the time and sand and salt gets in to things its just what it does so was thinking the AT Pro might be better for the beach can get down in the water and look at the low tide mark a bit and not be worried about a rouge wave wreaking my detector pus edges of lakes and stuff i like that just sort of opens up a new place to look, plus if it rains and so on i am not worried about water, was thinking when we get big westerly winds in the winter it must blow sand away go down then and look its extreme conditions in Australia its just how it is, droughts and flooding rains and salt and wind and minerals well you get the picture hey, so use the Bug in the parks, old sites, not the beach all the time! try the AT Pro down there?

For the price of the at pro I think I would get a used Excalibur or a Pi unit like a surf master. I don't have a at pro but don't think it will do much better than the bug. If your signal is really jumping that sounds like emi or a coil problem. What i do with emi on my bug is before balancing I turn up the power until it starts falseing in disc mode and just back it off until the emi stops then switch to all metal set the threshold to a good level. If its not steady I back off just a little more. Then I ground balance. 100% sensitivity is not always the best way to hunt. depending on soil and Emi you will sometimes get better depth and target response with less gain. Besides at 100% your going to have more of a problem with small foil. Sensitivity is also a way to help disc some of the unwanted targets out. Allot of Gb users say they can run 100% everywhere. The only thing I have to say about that is maybe you have a hotter machine with a little more gain at hand.
Ive only been able to run at 100% when I'm far from EMI and even at 50% I'm still hitting nickels at 8+ inches.
HH
Godigit.

If detectors were meant to be run at 100% all the time they wouldnt have to have a gain control. The sensititive control is there for a reason.

just got back from a hunt and played around with settings i am pretty sure its salt that's affecting it just have to turn the sense down like you guys said, its very sensitive my machine are they all like that? just have to fiddle with it and can get it to run quiet haven't had the gain down to 50% yet so will try down that far if it starts acting up, just picked up a few Goldie's and they where all green our $1 and 2's are copper nickel so they have been there a while!

i don't have a problem with the machine it finds coins that a sovereign is missing so that's pretty good in my book, just have to get it to settle so i don't go mad :crylol: oh i am already mad :clapping:

thanks heaps for the help fella's.

i know i have dug $2 coins at 9 10in's at least thought i was going to china :surprised: so i love the machine!!

so if i was to get another one get a PI machine will have a look and see what new modals are PI machines is there many around? sorry for being a pain just learning this stuff i must say i love it :detecting: i am doing OK its just fine tuning now!

i must say i would be struggling with out your help on the forum thanks!!

decided to go with the whites surf PI duel field get down in the salt and dig :wiggle: from what i am hearing its good.

i did the balance the way you said godiget it was better and found a few coins on the beach which had no junk must be the cleanest beach every target was a coin.

so anyway just have to run in the gain that suits :detecting:
