Is there any scenario when shooting for old coins when I should turn DEEP off?

Hi, Not here in the S.West UK we always use Deep.
Sometimes fast and deep combined.Jerry.

I always run with fast on only.. I really dont think it affects depth much if any, and allsows for a faster response in trash

Even in clean areas I run with FAST on. This is my 1st season with the XS and I'm doing well with it but I am looking to try and tweek my settings a little since I have been running the same settings for most of the season.
I'm getting deep coins at 7-10 inches consistantly so I'm happy with depth settings but extra clarity without missing goodies is my goal <img src="/metal/html/glasses.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":geek:">
As for FAST on. Let's say I was in a really clean area and I had turned off FAST and come upon a coin right next to a nail. The odds are decreased that I will hear the coin too and not just the null from the nail right? I run -10 IM , thanks for helpin, Greg

The way I understand it turning both on at the same time defeats the purpose of either, supposedly you should only have one or the other on, or both off.. Not sure.. all I know is I get plenty deep in fast, and can always switch to just deep if I get in a clean area I suspect has deep coins I cant reach in fast(if thats possible)

With my limitted understanding of electronics and what I have read in the manual. If you have fast and deep on at the same time, effectively you are speeding up and slowing up the response time simultaneously. The net result being status quo, in other words the factory preset.

What we have in fast and deep are two filters whose response is dependent on what combination of "off" and "on" are chosen. See the chart at the link below

I run with fast and deep on. I might turn fast off but never deep. that tip I got from Big Mike's site and that's good enough for me. For what's it worth.
