I am new to this excal forum , I am thinking of getting an excal and have seen them for sale . But what I was wondering is there any real differences between the excal 1000 and the excal ll?....
Are they still suportted my minelab for repairs (the excal 1000)????
I ask this because when my exp xs broke they said there were only a few remaing parts in stock to fix them and when those parts are gone there will be no more .... so i ended up having to buy an SE .
I just dont want this be the case with the excal 1000.
thanks don

best to call minelab and ask about which parts they will/can replace on older excals.

the excal II has the newer nimh batteries and the newer tornado coils(thinner and lighter) which are both nice improvements. people still modify the excal and sov alot to suit their own tastes.

a new excal is gonna give you a warranty so bear that in mind. its more costly but a few gold rings and the detector has paid for itself.

I have both, and both are 1000's. The Excal II is more stable with improved shielding which means less falsing, the coil is slimmer and glides through the water easier, the new coil is florescent thereby making it easier to see in the water.

I do like the earlier blue model headphones - I think the tones are richer and they seem to be more comfortable for longer wearing times. As far as depth...this is controversial and probably depends upon your settings and hunting environment but I think the blue is deeper.

As far as Minelab repairs, I know people are sending the earlier 1000's in and getting them back

I still have an Excal 1000 which last time it went in for a service to have the seals done also had a new slimline coil put on and they replaced the outer plastic sleeve, the new one has a foil backing so gives better screening. There is very little difference between the two models, but I personally think the blue headphones give a better sound, servicing and parts are no problem, go for it.
