Is there a way to run with a barely audible threshold?

One of the great thing about the White's I used to use, was the ability to run with a slight threshold and listen for deep targets. Is there a way to do it with a Tejon or Outlaw? I know it would be in all metal and some detectors just aren't equipped to do this and maintain a steady threshold.

Don't know about the Tejon or Outlaw, but I hunt with my Tiger Shark like that and that is when it is the deepest. Almost to dam deep.

Yes-they have adjustable threshholds. The only reason to have a threshhold is in a/m true all metal mode to notice all the tiny variances in the signal or to super-tune for extra depth. On some detectors it doesn't make any difference at all to have the threshold quiet or sounding. That's just my experience and I haven't used EVERY detector on market.

Many of the more modern machine are what is called "Silent Search" units which eliminates the need for a running threshold. The older units really had to be adjusted with that low level of a running threshold or the performance was effected. I'm form the old school as well and it took me a long time to get used to not adjusting for that perfect threshold. Also, Whites wasn't the only machines of old that used the running tone, most all of the older units I ever encountered ran than way.

I sometimes run in all metal with a barely audible threshold on several of my Tesoros. When I hit a solid target, I switch into Disc to see if I can determine the range the target falls in.

Yes and it is what is recommended:

Adjust THRESHOLD

To adjust the threshold tone, turn the THRESHOLD knob clockwise until you hear a slight but steady tone. You may have to turn the knob to somewhere between the 1 o

I believe what canewrap is asking ..Is there any adjustable treshold in disc mode...Not in any models I have run...would be nice..

Put that way I don't know of any, either and I agree - it would be nice.

Yep, that is exactly what I was asking. If they ever added that feature you would just need to be using a limiter on your headphones, so a surface signal wouldn't blow your ears. If the White's I used to use didn't just about wipe out my shoulder, I would still be using one, for that feature alone.
