Is there a point where it is to cold to safely operate the MXT without damaging it? Thanks HH

Don't know that you'll damage the machine with the cold weather but..... I had trouble last winter with pinpointing..... Someone told me that it could have been below the "operating temperature" of the electronics <img src="/metal/html/shrug.gif" border=0 width=37 height=15 alt=":shrug">
 
Not that I have ever heard--I think you yourself will find it to cold before the machine doees---DeathWind1

I was still able to dig so it was probably in the low thirtys.........
 
My family homesteaded in Delta Junction Alaska. I remember one week the temperature hitting -80 degrees farengheit ambeint without wind for about 3 days straight. It can get about 30 - 40 farengheit below zero where im at right now. Between Ice fishing, Snowboarding, Snowmachineing etc.. I get caught in it frequently. Its a very serious question. Things tend to act funny at temperatures like this. Id like to use my detector during the winter, but dont want to damage it. Lol HH Jason

Does cold zap batteries? My car battery is always way above charge during cold weather. HH Jason
 
unless you mean it reads 13v on the dash meter. That would probably be the alternator.
Chemical reactions in the little AA batteries don't quite work as well as lead-acid car batts with hundreds of cranking amps.
Try freezing your batteries and see if it works. I'd take them out as soon as you ck it so you don't get condensation on the internal machine contacts.
Really cold circuitry might be prone to shocks and cracking.. there's always the old empirical destructive test method of finding out. <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":D">

Thanks for the info Nevada Gary. The battery reads a higher voltage than usual on my dash meter. It could be my alternator. I will test the batteries in extreme cold, and post info if you would like. I'll do a google search I am sure I will find something. All common sense says It would probably be pretty hard on my MXT if I took it out in extreme cold. I know plastic and different materials get very brittle in freezing temps. I think I'll save my detecting for the warmer days of the year. All of our sled hills, fairgrounds, and snow machine trails around here just beg to be detected during the winter. Thanks again HH Jason.
 
The Mxt with some kind of heated material. It couldnt be too hot, but I am going to experiment.
