The DFX & XLT will cause many people to experiment with settings almost forever, thinking there is some magic combination that *greatly* increases depth. My experience is with the XLT. It was a love/hate relationship that lasted many years, & it was never stable for me. If I tried settings anywhere near what others used, it just beeped & showed numbers all the time. Sent it in. They replaced the coil & it didn't help. Also, I didn't like scrolling through all those menu items to change a setting or just see how one is set.
There are simpler detectors that go deep, discriminate well & cost less. I like my MXT, at least in relic mode for coin hunting. The new Matrix M6 is simpler still, but with more tones & supposed to be less noisy. The only thing I know White's is working on is a new Matrix series detector that will probably be called the M7.
We now have detectors with fairly good depth & discrimination & a few bells & whistles selling for $200-300. Those $1,000+ detectors may be harder & harder for mfrs to market, unless they really are *much* better. With $3+ gallon for gas & general inflation, people unemployed or working for less $$$, more things competing for peoples time & money, public places being cleaned out of old items and new laws making detecting illegal in more places, one has to wonder if there will be any more $1,000 detectors.
So the release of new high-end detectors must wait for new designs that are *really* new & maybe a better economy, & cheaper availability of new parts. One mfr was said to have plans for ground penetrating radar, but chose not to produce it as cost was estimated at the time as being over $20,000. HH, George (MN)
