Is there a new DFX on its way?

I have heard that there is a new detector that should replace the DFX.
I have also noticed that the price for the DFX has dropped worldwide.
This could also be a sign that the DFX is starting to fade out.
Does anyone of you know something about this?

Thanks for your reply.
But, to be honest: the DFX has been on the market for 5-6 years as far as I remember. It is not a god feeling to buy an expensive product just to find out that a new and better detector is released a few weeks later. As I work in the computer industry, I know that there is no need to wait for a better computer the next day. With detector, this is different. A model could be on the marked for 5 years before e new model takes over.

Thanks and regards,

Ole

I think you will not miss much if any getting a DFX. Prices on something like the DFX can go down due to cheaper parts, labor or even R&D/Capital cost recouping. This does not always mean a new improved product is on it's way. Long term accounting has probably more to do with it than anything else. The way the DFX and other Multi-Freq detectors work, you will not see a lot of changes except in software or maybe some embedded system changes. Just look at the Sovereign and Explorer changes over the years.

You won't know till it happens and I think White's has to do something to get back on top of the hill. The last few years have done nothing for them on the high end and that is what a lot of long time users are looking for.

I think now that fiser is sold you will see a new detector coming from them and something high end they went the same way white's did. Minelab did better and the new T2 did a really good job. So I would wait till end of this year to see what white's does. The industry is slowing down and the base is getting older. The new generation is not really into this like the baby boomers are. But I think a new high end that is different and gives us a edge on hunted out sites and finding gold and seeing through masked out areas would be a great boost for this hobby.

The lady that answers the phone at whites told me by Xmas time there will be a replacement for the DFX.
I would think the Replacement of the DFX will pickup gold nuggets better as their cheaper ones that do.
I would wait a few months and get the latest and greatest. Most salespeople will tell you that nothing new will be coming out because nobody will buy their DFXs that they have in stock....

The DFX & XLT will cause many people to experiment with settings almost forever, thinking there is some magic combination that *greatly* increases depth. My experience is with the XLT. It was a love/hate relationship that lasted many years, & it was never stable for me. If I tried settings anywhere near what others used, it just beeped & showed numbers all the time. Sent it in. They replaced the coil & it didn't help. Also, I didn't like scrolling through all those menu items to change a setting or just see how one is set.

There are simpler detectors that go deep, discriminate well & cost less. I like my MXT, at least in relic mode for coin hunting. The new Matrix M6 is simpler still, but with more tones & supposed to be less noisy. The only thing I know White's is working on is a new Matrix series detector that will probably be called the M7.

We now have detectors with fairly good depth & discrimination & a few bells & whistles selling for $200-300. Those $1,000+ detectors may be harder & harder for mfrs to market, unless they really are *much* better. With $3+ gallon for gas & general inflation, people unemployed or working for less $$$, more things competing for peoples time & money, public places being cleaned out of old items and new laws making detecting illegal in more places, one has to wonder if there will be any more $1,000 detectors.

So the release of new high-end detectors must wait for new designs that are *really* new & maybe a better economy, & cheaper availability of new parts. One mfr was said to have plans for ground penetrating radar, but chose not to produce it as cost was estimated at the time as being over $20,000. HH, George (MN)

Yep I am sure that most of the New Detectors that are under $500 are just as good as the DFX and GTI2500.....
Thats why I am sure there should be a replacement soon.
I am sure if whites of garrett replace their high end detectors there will be many more sales.JT

Are you REALLY sure of all that?

Someone is going to give a bang for the buck high end with all of the new tech toys we have to have to get this hobby back into gearor it will start to die a slow death. Minelab and compaines with money will go forward we demaned it

The site came to life and i removed several hundred coins including some silvers! - I didn't get a gold a ring ON THIS SITE with the xlt but by some fluke i recovered a nice big gold ring with the cheap brand c scope i used. MY own personal opinion is that cheap detectors are not worth using mainly because they lack depth but they will still find gold rings down to 3 inches.. The xlt is not too good on gold rings though , i never had much luck as far as gold rings go with xlt , some machines seem to have the lucky strike on gold rings.

One thing is for sure a cheaper detector wil pay for it self quicker and still get good depth , many of the medium priced detectors go just as deep as the top of range machines.

My own best guess is that a replacement for the whites dfx will be here in around another 12 -18 months time, its gonna have to be something special though to kick the minelabs asss hole good and proper. I am not sure if whites can pull it off , my guess is the only way they will ever make a cult detector that will sell like hotcakes and be a huge hit is to re -think completely the whole xlt and dfx series and come out with something brand new and diferent. I think that sticking updated circuit boards into the same detector like they did with the xlt to dfx upgrade proberbly wont cause much of a surge in sales.

I personally have owned an Explorer II, Quattro MP, X-Terra 50 and X-Terra 70. I don't have any of them anymore. I found several items with the MXT that none of the Minelab machines would make a sound on. No matter how you tuned them. In my opinion White's is already kicking Minelabs @#$&%$@# I am not much of an XLT or DFX fan. But, the MXT and the M6(yes I said M6!!!!) are by far, two of the best machines I have ever owned.
