-16 Iron mask on and or Iron mask off with smart screen cleared. Will it perform different. I went to an old park where it has been detected to death but did find a small area where they must have skipped over, probably due to lots of junk. I went thru with it in smart screen/coin/jewlery accepted. Found one green penny. Did a good job I thaught, but curious, will Iron mask -16 work better. Not sure if I should hit Iron mask button or just clear the smart screen I put it in Iron mask. I went back over area and found two more green pennys. The guys I was with were leaving so I'll come back Sunday. It's Sunday, had cleaned green coins and they were a 1938,1920,1912 wheats. Went thru same area in -16 IM, and found a 1942 Merc. and another green penny,1912 after cleaning it. I tried the clear smart screen after and it seemed to be quieter. Almost like it was responding different, but didn't stay long enough to really compare. Is there a difference?

Doug.
Very interresting question. Maybe the Iron mask mode goes deeper than Smartscreen, It seemed that way to me this summer when I was using it.
John,

I do not have enough time spent with it but I feel it does to. Found two more wheats today in -16 IM. Not sure of the dates but I'm sure they are older ones, like the other four. Man I have to work hard for these old pennys, but I can't believe I have found ANY in this place to begin with. One was 6" under pine needles and 6" under the dirt. The other was next to the water that was tough rock and sand. It is very trashy and a little unstable by the water, but the explorer did it and I am not stopping now. I was very sure that nothing would ever be found here again but I was wrong. My first time out here with the XS was rather a fast go thru, thinking that I had the very best it should pick them off like cherries. But I have learned that it is not one of those racing style machines and started to find things after slowing down and using the right settings. It took a lot of ground coverage also. Thanks for your response.....Digger
