I am looking to purchase a used G.T., but found a nice used Elite for sale cheap, My question is is there a big difference between the performance of these two machines? or are the differences not to be a big concern?

Hi I read the same question below, didnt realize that someone else had the same question.

My self I have used all the different Sovereigns since 1997 and feel the GT is the best of them all, but you have to know it well to get the best performance out of it I feel. For me the Elite was a good detector with the new style battery pack plus the Tornado coil was also a big improvement over the older BBS coil. One thing I didnt like and was corrected with the GT is the control were in different position than the older Sovereigns were and kept hitting the wrong control. I also felt the targets sounded deeper than they were on the 3 different Elite I tried. Now the GT added auto tracking for all metal only so it can be used for Prospecting and has the straight shaft and I find the signal sound better while the deeper signals will ID better. With this it seems to be more sensitive so I have notice iron will false a little more, but by coming at the target from a different direction I can see it is not repeatable like a good target is.
If you are new to the Sovereigns the Elite or any of the older ones will work great if you spend the time to get to know it and understand it. If you can get a Elite at a good price to see how you will like it I would go for the Elite so if you dont like it you can resale it and lose no money or very little.
If you get any of the Sovereigns just remember it is different type of a detector that takes a little to get used and you have to go slower and the slower you go the deeper it will go. Also this is the type of detector that give you the info with the tones and meter reading and lets you the operator decide if you want to dig, not the detector beeping and telling you it thinks it is a good target.
