Is There A Bad Tesoro Model?

I read a lot of posts on different sites about different brands of metal detectors and have come to the conclusion that Tesoro owners complain less about their detectors than owners of other brands of detectors. In fact Tesoro owners rave about how good the older models are and how much they still like them. So it makes me wonder if Tesoro ever made a model that people bought and did not like?

Well I like the 2 tesoro's that I've owned (deleon and cibola) but from the number of tejon's I've seen for sale/trade that its the one model that ppl seem to not hang onto as long as others, not sure why having never owned one but I have a feeling its because you have to work a little more to figure out what its telling you and that its not so much of a turn on and go machine. Id have to agree! I have a Tejon, Ive used a cibola for 6 yrs and decided to upgrade to the Tejon. Its an awesome machine that will do about anything you want it to, you just need to learn to use it and understand it. maybe some of those unhappy Tejon owners had little or no tesoro experience before they bought them. I find it very user friendly (The Tejon), but like i said, Ive been using a Cibola for 6 yrs. Just a thought.

I've never owned a bad one.

I hear the Golden uMax is the least popular in terms of sales, but that doesn't mean its a bad machine at all.

In any lineup, one of the units has be the bottom seller.

That's a bit of a loaded question in my mind as a detector that lacks a feature one truly needs or desires could be considered a "bad" detector even if it's good otherwise. For instance many of the Tesoros out there are preset ground balance machines set at the factory to an average soil. In areas with soil that is close in mineralization to that average they work very well with decent depth. However, going to an area with difficult mineralized soil, a machine with either true auto ground balance or a manual ground balance adjustment should handle that situation much better. I have several detectors of each type and in my local parks, playgrounds etc. the preset machines work very well. However, I also have an Eldorado with manual ground balance and take it when going to areas where I expect to encounter different soil conditions. All told though, the Tesoros I use have been reliable, light weight, fun to use and I've dug lots of goodies with them.

All in all from old to new Tesoro makes excellent detectors with a true lifetime warranty and excellent service after the sale...All in all they need to make a simplified meter unit with larger meters for us oldtimers but again we all have our dislikes and likes and personal preferences come into play. From my standpoint the answer would be NO as even their present metered and notch units
well learned are the favorites of many...

In my opinion, the umax style ELDORADO had almost everything I WANTED when I bought it. Now, after over 3000 hrs. to its credit, I sometimes think it would be nice to have two features the TEJON has that the ELDORADO doesn't, those being double disc settings, and the "HOT" coil technology.
Claims from prior users of the unit seem to suggest a depth increase over the ELDORADO as well.
I buy TESORO because they have THE BEST WARRANTY in the business, hands down! Plus, they keep the prices reasonable, weight down, have three piece poles, and their language is easy to read after some practice.

I own a Vaquero and take it on every hunt, along with my ETrac, MXT, or GT. Its easy to use, once you learn what its telling you, easy on the arm, deep and I love the manual ground balance. For me, it's one of the best detectors you can own and for $420, a bargain!

I too take the vaq along with my MXT or other detectors- the vaq with the 5.75 coil can really cherry pick small treasures in junk. The Vaq rides shotgun with me most of the time
