Is the Sunray X-1 a must have?

What's the opinion of the experts out there, is it all it's hyped up to be. It should be for the price, but I'm hesitant. Is it really something that is gonna help me alot?

I have been using one for a month its range is greater than any other probe I have owned and you do get the readouts on the screen as you would with a standard coil.
It means smaller holes on grass land but on the beach what the hell.
They are a lot of money but Iam glad that I bought one.
The bracket could be stronger and I have made a mkII which a few others are copying.Jerry.UK.

really, if you can afford one its a must have.. cuts way down on digging time and can net you some good stuff you might have left behind

I ordered mine from Sunray about a month ago. They are on backorder, so if you want one, the faster you order the better. I had a Whites bullseye for about 3 years. It took a crap on me my first hunt this year. I can't stand hunting without a probe. Once you use a probe, any probe, it will spoil you. It really cuts down on your recovery time. It almost eliminates those phantom targets that "disappear" when you dig. From what I've seen they X-1 may cost $80 more than the others, but it's worth every penny.

It's hard to understand why a small coil and a swithch would be so expensive. However I feel that it is very helpful.

I would say it is a must have if you want to find your targets without digging big holes as you dont know if you are deep enough or is it on the side of the hole.
I find it is a real time saver and i know there would have been many I would have given up on if it wasnt for the probe. When you look at it the cost isnt that bad for what it all does and the time it will save you looking for the target.
This probe is so handy on the targets 3 or less inches down as you can find them without digging a plug. the deep one I dig a plug then go into the hole with the probe and find where the target is and waste no time.

Hey John, I juast bought one. What is this thing that you made for the wand, I have heard that the holder may break, want to avoid any problems.

Less than $2 at the hardware store. Had mine on for a long time and I can really slam the probe in the holders! They have a hole drilled in them already. Quick and easy fix! The last picture is with just one mounted so you can compare the two, I have them both on now. No more broke clips ever!

Read my post from a while back. I can go on and on, but it all boils down to, if you don't like it, you will get almost every penny back out of it! They do not get sold used very often and when they do, they bring new price and quick!

Yes it's a must. First you can save yourself so much time finding what it is in the hole which means more coins. Our friend Bob does'nt have one and we see him on the ground sometimes for 15 minutes we can dig 3 or 4 things before he gets off the ground. Just Friday I got a deep iffy hit took the plug out I still could'nt here what was in the hole with the X-1 probe but what was in the hole started to sound a litle better when I swept the coil over it so I took 2 inches of dirt out at a time until it showed up on the probe and at 1 foot I pulled a 1902 Barber half before I had my probe I would've put the dirt back in the hole and walked away after 8 inches. Makes me wonder haw many more good targets I give up on before I bought the X-1 probe? Another thing when a coin is on edge it seems to me without the probe you can easily be fooled into thinking it is deeper than what it really is and after taking out the plug and going around it with the probe bingo less than 30 seconds and you're of to finding another one. Good luck HH Ken

To me it's a must have. Don't think of it as a probe though. It's really a 1" handheld coil. It's helped me recover deep targets that I would have given up on had I not had the X-1 to tell me that there was DEFINITELY something down there. The three really deep coins that I almost walked away from were all IH's (1900, 1901, 1906). You won't be sorry for getting one, but carful of the holder, the clips are kinda weak. I hear a modified stronger holder is in the works or check out the post below for an alternative. Oh yeah, when you're done using it, DON'T FORGET to switch back to your coil...I've done this more than once and it's embarrassing even when there's nobody looking. I was finding all kinds of stuff but it consisted of my keys and clad finds in my right pocket. I've had a hole dug and was on the ground, then noticed that I was switched over to probe the whole time when I went to use it.....
