Is the Silver U-max a good relic detector?

I owned one of these a while back, but never got to try it for deeper relics. I am thinking of buying another one and equiping it with a 9x8 coil. How does the Silver U-max rate as a relic machine as for depth, and with the 9x8 will it have similar depth to the Cibola. I presently have a Deleon and being able to swap coils is a big plus.

I was meaning that I could use the 9x8 off of the Deleon on the Silver U-max. I was wondering if that would make it any deeper on relics (the Silver U-max).

As far as I know the uMax coils won't work on the Deleon or any of the new hot technology detectors. I may be wrong as I don't own a uMax detector anymore but my Vaquero has a 4 pin coil socket and I believe the uMax detectors have a 5 pin. Need some help from the experts here!

Supreme! That's how it rates up north in sandy type soils.

I spent a lot of time with the Silver uMax fitted with the mega deep 10x12 concentric coil. The last good coin I dug was a silver war nickel at a good 9+ inches deep (filled in area). Wheats at 8 inches are nothing for this rig.

Coils that work on the Cibola also work on the Tejon, Vaquero, and Lobo Super Trac. Silver Umax coils also work on the Deleon, Cortes, Conquistador, Eldorado, and a few other older machines.

As well as the Cortes, and all of those coils can be interchanged. The H.O.T. machines are the Tejon, Vaquero, Cibola, which are also interchangable with the Lobo and its familly of coils.

Thanks, I stand corrected I thought the Deleon was one of the hot technology detectors, my bad Prospector. You might get an extra 2" with that coil in the right ground conditions.

Yes the 9x8 is deeper than the stock Silver uMax coil. Some say a LOT deeper. I never tried the 9x8 but I have owned (4) Silvers over the years and I put the 10x12 concentric coil on 2 of them. With the 10x12 you're looking at depth that would rate with the Tejon and maybe even beat it. The Silver uMax looks so simple and basic but it's really a very powerful detector. It's been Tesoros basic money maker for many years now. You know how well it finds coins with the stock coil. Put a web coil on it and use a long handled spade.

And too, never judge any detector by fresh buried coins. This test is not reliable. Long time buried coins detect far deeper. The true test is always in actual finds from real world hunting.
