IS the Se pro worth it

I had three minelabs but no explorer and was wondering about the explorer XS - explorer ll ---or the SE pro.

The XS you can get pretty cheap but I am afraid of their age and I don't think minelab repairs them anymore. I was leaning towards the Explorer ll and I see the SE pro pop up -but for hundreds more.
Is the explorer ll with the pro coil the equal of the SE pro.
I want to get one and get rid of my other detectors.
thanks

If you get a Se.... Please read all Bryce Brown posts.. The man is a wizard with the SE's, and Explorers... Our resident "Master" you might say.

there were a few for sale recently with all kinds of goodies and now-they dissappeared. even ebay had a few but not much there now.
How old is the EX ll compared to the Se or should I forget about it and just get the SE pro.
I know I read somewhere that the Ex ll with the procoil is just as good but maybe a hair slower.

There's an Explorer 2 for sale right now in the classified section of these Finds forums . Comes with a Sunray probe too . That would be a good price even without the Sunray . The guy's also selling an SEF 10x12 coil ( and that's a damn good coil ) .

Thanks Dirt Doctor-I saw that.
it's a good price I guess but $575 with the SEF??
I think I will go for the se Pro which I have seen some beauties recently with exTRAS.
I saw a dealer ad for a shop demo for $999 (SE pro) and another used one in mint shape for in the $800 range.
I will try and wait it out and see what comes along.

That is a good price on that Demo . You know it works and you will get the full warranty because you bought it straight from the dealer . I didn't know what you're spending range was going to be so that is why I pointed out the EX2 . I have an SE and a 2 ( both bought used ) I like them both . I think the Explorer2's will be repairable for quite some time as I think they can use SE parts and make a Hybrid ( of course I could be wrong on that ) . Good luck on whatever you decide .

I just bought the SE pro.-so that leaves me with a troy shadow Mint X-3 and a CZ-70 being restored to new in El Paso texas-I might sell it but will have fun comparing the three in my coin garden.
Now I have to find the andy S book on the explorer

What next
I have a CZ-70 pro and a TroyX-3 on the way and I just bought a propointer and a digger and now the minelab SE pro.
When I get them I will compare them in my coin garden and take notes but then I will head to the two lakes the were bought by the city in the 1800's and all the cottages are gone and overgrown and see what I can get out of there.I hear there are only a few foundations that are still to be seen. I know everytime I hear the coin sound I will get chills. there is a road only on one side of the lake. My canoe will get me to the other side.Wish me luck.
I should get a camera to record everything.

Well, I have owned every model in the Explorer line and I will say the II is as capable as the SE (in capable hands).
But, that does not take anything away from the SE which might have something like Modulated VCO Pinpoint, Target ID in PP, etc, you might like.
The processor speed of the SE (3rd Gen.) processes the signal a tad faster for ID'ing on the screen. But, remember it is the tones you are listening for and then use your screen as a reference.
Go fast with any Explorer and you are missing items.

The XS was introduced in December of 1999.
The XS II was introduced in May 2003.
The SE was introduced in Sept 2006.

thanks mike

Be prepared to spend some time with it....... if you dont sell it until its paid for its self you have a shot at learning whats its telling you. Id keep the one you know best as a back up and get rid of the other.

I'm down to two detectors-CZ-70 and the Minelab SE Pro on the way.
I already read some from the online comments but most suggest using the factory setting until I know what the machine is telling me.
So I will probably do that and read and read and read. If it is as good or I am smart enough to really understand it then the CZ will probably be my back up and I will get a real light cherry picker to take in my canoe with me.It would have been a shame to take that sidewinder out in the brush-all nice and shiny.

LOL..... commited now. Where you plan on using it if you need a canoe and what kind of targets? If its near water id recomment you put a sticker of some sort over your external speaker to keep moisture out. Also..... NEVER raise your coil above your box..... water will run up the shaft and could do damage. Get yourself a cover for the battery area and TID.

It has been for me but I was also able to hunt with someone who knew it well and helped along the way.
It has been a lot of fun using it and has made me some nice finds even though I don't post much much.

I still use an explorer 2 but picked up an SE too because the prices are so cheap right now for some reason?? I have had it out a few times and think it is an improvement. Seems hotter?
