Is the MXT the best all-roundMD in the world?

With the exception of getting into the big $$, several thousands.

It's got my vote for comfort, ease of use and damn
good old fashioned MDing</STRONG>

I've only had mine for just over a month. For the small amount of time I've been able to use it I am very impressed. BUT. The other day after work I had just enough time to sneak over to a nearby park before it got dark and I hit a good repeatable foil signal. Don't remember the VDI number. Because it was foil, who cares. But I dig any positive numbers and from about three inches down was a 1980 nickel.
Flipped the plug back over and swept the coil again. Foil. Turned 90 degrees. Foil. Removed the nickel and swept the area. No response. The nickel laying on the surface read nickel so it was something in the soil. Was using the Eclipse 5.3.
I think the MXT is a fantastic machine but I am getting to the point that I just don't pay much attention to the VDI anymore. The soil WAS in the upper 70's so maybe an Excellerator might have done better. I just can't afford one right now. So in the mean time if it beeps I'm digging. <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":D">

is not the MXT's forte. Whether with the stock coil or an accessory coil even in good ground it does not ID as accurate as most of the dedicated coin machines available.

This is most likely due to the fact that the MXT does not average the VDI's from multiple passes over the target, as, for example the DFX or XLT can. This can also be of benefit if you are aware of how the MXT works.

I pretty much dig all positive numbers because that's the only way to know for me to know what the MXT's picked up. It doesn't bother me that the MXT doesn't average the VDI with every pass. Like I said I've only had it for about a month. I'm lucky to get out and use it four hours a week. It's going to take some time for me to get to know it real well.
I think it's a great detector. But best all around detector in the world? I don't know. But it is for me cuz that's the one i have. <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

Rudy,
Good point! My post was meant to point out that, once centered, the target ID on "in the clear" targets tended to read down from the actual conductivity level and be inconsistent when read from a different angle (<EM>in my ground</EM>) compared to another detector that also does not average the signals.
I swear, sometimes I think that some of the newer machines out don't like my mild to moderate ground and are more keyed toward better performance in hotter ground. <img src="/metal/html/frown.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":("> Irregardless I have always and will continue to dig it all! <img src="/metal/html/wink.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=";)">
Beep~dig as Monte says. <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin">
