Is the LTD really as good as Buckeye Brad says?

If you've read the gushing reports on the LTD from Buckeye Brad, Nasa Tom and others, you're probably wondering can the LTD really be that good?

My opinion is oh yes, it sure as heck is!

I've been wanting a F75 long before the LTD was released and following the posts for some time. I finally broke down when I saw a dealer throwing in a nice accessory package along with the LTD package.

Understand that my frame of reference is as someone who never used the previous generation F75.

Got out for a couple 30-45 minute hunts after work during the past week.

Pulled a 1903 nickel and a wheat from a friend's yard that I've pounded hard and had pulled only one wheat the last two times I detected there.

This weekend was more of the same. I pulled a 1909 Barber dime, 2 Washington Quarters, a silver nickel, eight wheats and a couple old keys from the big yard of a long vacant house that I've been detecting hard since I got permission almost a year ago. Another spot that I also considered "hunted out".

All the targets were from 4-9 inches. The iffiest signal was one of the wheat pennies. But for the most part, all the good targets hit hard and solid. The quarters were at 8 and 9 inches and hit harder than I ever would expect from a 9" coin. That ties the deepest coin I've ever dug, and that previous 9" which was also a Washington quarter was an iffy signal.

I'm impressed beyond words by both the extreme depth and incredible separation of this amazing detector. I've got a learning curve ahead, but I've got to say this detector functions very intuitively. Reading and studying a lot of the posts for many months on this forum and Nasa Tom's has helped me a lot. So a big thank you to all who have posted their F75 observations and tips here.

For whatever it's worth, I ran the detector in the boost mode and flipped back to check targets in de for many of the targets. I ran the discrimination from 0-25 and the sensitivity from 40-80. 3 or 4 tones. I was able to run it stable every where I was up to at least 60. An experienced original F75 user may have dug many of those targets in de, but as an inexperienced user I know I would have not dug many of them. The bp mode really improves the signal.

The key for me was swinging sloooow in the bp mode.

I've used several other fine detectors in the past and they all have had their strengths and weaknesses. But I never had a detector that I could say stands head and shoulders above the others, until now.

This detector is all that, and then some.

All reviews are as good as the price paid by the reviewer. Ever seen a bad review on LT website?

I've never seen a bad published field test, period.

But I can promise you I've never gotten any $ considerations from FT.

If I got the LTD and thought it was a dud, after spending $1200 which is a LOT of money to me, you better believe I'd be saying it.

One thing I've noticed with the LTD, hunting in areas I've hit pretty well before, is the number of coins on edge (when I can tell orientation in the flap or clod). They hit solid and ID well. Just too many on edge to think the LTD isn't doing something a bit better than the other detectors I've used. And it ranges across the common US coin types and not just high or low conductors.

I don't know if Bill or Brad get comp. machines and I don't care. My point is that if FT gives anyone a machine to field test they can be assured that the report won't come back bad. It's human nature to not bite the hand that feeds you. The other review site by owners has some unbiased reviews, but I think some of them are padded to the good and bad by interested parties. And then I've seen the F75 get slammed by users who didn't know what the hell they were doing. You've gotta really read hard between the lines. But I have no doubt the LTD is a step up from the F75. Probably not as good as my Omega or CZ3D, but that's just my opinion.

My LTD is good, but not quite the greatest thing since sliced bread he made it out to be........must be I have different soil?
But, I have to say I have found quite a few nice goodies since I've had it though.....
(I know he say's posting finds pictures is just showing off...but I'ma do it anyways in a new post above this) ;)
HH,
Bill

Bill, if you would have said electricity or indoor plumbing I would have agreed with you.

But sliced bread is overrated. Heck, I've got a big sharp knife...

The reason Brad was chosen as a prototype field tester is because of his experience and honesty. Brad knows detectors, detecting technology, and how to hunt, regardless of his posted finds and that's why he was picked. He is able to constructively convey valuable technical and field information to me and our engineering team better than just about anyone.

For awhile Brad and I were the only ones that had the LTD. I was anxious to hear Brads results because I was blown away with my findings even before the fine tuning took place. Brad confirmed my initial findings which were that the LTD were awesome and kicked but! Dankowski did the same thing when he received his but in a more reserved manner. Brad and Mr. Dankowski were asked to provide feedback to us both positive and negative as we fine tuned the new modes. Both did awesome jobs and the detectors turned out to be winners and we have the 2 of them and DJ and John Garner to thank for that. "getting it right" is far more important than any on line field tests provided to the public by anyone. Brad and Mr. Dankowski posted the results after it went public and we never asked them to do so because we were confident in the finished product, their on line findings were done for others benefit. All of us were excited because it is an obvious step forward and Brad verbalized his excitement which was spot on as far as I am concerned. I did the same thing but to all my customers IT IS THAT GOOD under most conditions and also in an experienced users hands that know how to fully utilize the enhancements which Brad was able to do. Some others have yet to fully understand the unit but still see the advantages. How much better is open for interpretation but MANY feel it is a giant step and the fact that they are sold out and very difficult to get enforces that fact.

You say that the LTD is sold out, so, alot of folks would like to know, how many were made?

I wish I could help but the answer is proprietary info. I can say that some numbers I have seen posted were based on the initial run and far from accurate.

Not enough, is all I can say from a sales standpoint........I WANT MORE TO SELL!!! I hate turning down orders.........

We forecasted enough for an Xmas special and they went faster than we forecasted due to the increased performance and the fact that we got it right due to valuable help from our prototype field testers helping to provide important info on making them work better. I cant say enough about guys like Brad, Tom, Streak, Skully, Andy, Pete Mark and others.:clapping:

Now they are gone and we cant even accept orders anymore. The only ones available are what is in the dealer distributor pipeline or being built for existing orders............that's why they are now selling for full retail.
More good stuff coming. We even have some of our "untrusted" field testers already working on it! :beers: GO TEAM!
I know I have been working on some of our new stuff along with Brad, Andy, Scully and Tom and others not to mention DJ, JG and other engineers on our team we can improve it a little bit more-------------- watch out!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is Top Secret so dont bother asking them...........

That's just the beginning and you will know what I mean when you see the New Gold Bug and then the XXXXXXXXXXX and then the XXXXXXXXXXXXXX and then the XXXXXXXXXXXX which will be before the XXXXXXXXXXXXX which will redefine the hobby and the phrase "METAL DETECTING"
I need more X's becaue there are more and better things to come!

............

NUFF SAID!

All this arguing and fighting has kept my interest in FTP. No publicity is bad publicity. And to have the director of sales at FTP involved makes it all the more interesting. Sounds like a good weekly half hour sitcom. Always needed a good show to follow "Two And A Half Men."

In all seriousness, after looking at a number of Bill Ladd's videos, I totally disagree with Mike on the "center of attention" comment. I never got that impression of Bill. His videos are generally about the machine and the finds, not himself. He showed what the LTD will do, and I think the video represented the LTD and the T2 in a very positive light.

All kidding aside, we lost a most insightful voice and detecting resource when this extracurricular stuff made Dave Johnson decide it wasn't worth the aggravation to post anymore.

Before we lose anybody else, maybe this stuff ought to be relegated to PMs?

How about letting someone in Calif do some testing....I live in the Gold Country where it all started in 1840s...:surrender:

Low-Boy, It seems to me that Fisher wants to make the "Best Relic Machine". That is why we will never get a chance to field test anything. I would gladly pay regular price for a detector to test. But by the same token, if I didn't think it was worth the money after 60 or 90 days, I would want to return it for a refund.

Take care,Dave

oh well I guess Calif doesnt count as a state with any history....
