Is the Infinium a good beach & surf machine

I have a DetectorPro wader , would the Infinium be a great improvement for depth and all around detector. The wader is very easy to use ,how does that compare.I can buy a year old like new infinium for $500 with water headphones or a Whites beach Hunter ID with a probe for the same $.Thanks for any input

I cannot comment on the Pro Wader but I can for the Infinium & the BHID.

500 for the Infinium is a good buy but I would have thought that it was a bit steep for the BHID,

The Infinium is without doubt an excelent salt beach and surf detector with the proviso that you understand that it requires a bit of adjustment of the disc control to get it to run smooth over the salt, whereas the Pro has probably been set up for salt beach detecting, that is , the pulse time delay is set for most beach mineralisation and will run smooth out of the box. The pro Wader would have to be very good to better the Infinium. Maybe someone else could comment re that machine.
I also use a BHID and although this is a VLF machine it is excelent on all but heavy black sand beaches and it does not like high iron mineralisation.
I am in Australia and the BHID runs beautifully on all of the beaches I have taken it to; Once Ground Balanced to the wet sand It tracks smoothly from dry to the wet sand into the water without a murmur plus it has a crude but effective discrimintor using three coloured lights and tones to ID targets. I find that it is capable of very good depth in wet sand and will detect an Aussie 20 cent coin at 12 + inches. The detector will not ID a target until a strong signal is produced.

The early models of the BHID were fitted with a very boyant coil which some people did not like because they felt it was too dificult to hold on the bottom when sumerged, I have not noticed this problem but then I raerly go more than waist deep.

If you are a Dig It All type of detectorist then the Infinium would be a good choice and if you donot like to fiddle with adjustments then I might sugest the
MK 2 Seahunter. or any other top brand beach dedicated PI. Even though I am a dig all targets person there are times when I get pretty ticked off digging bobby pins and screw caps, so having a detector with true discrimination at the beach can calm the shattered nerves on occasions.

Just an opinion.

Thanks for you very helpful info,my Detectopro Wader only goes about 5- 6inchs on a Us dime [10 cent ], what size is your 20 center. Can your beach hunter id be hip mounted.I do both fresh and salt water .Thanks for your .

BHID is not hip mountable although where there is a will there is a way.
Our 20 cent coin is approx 27mm in diameter and the infinium will find this coin at better than 15 inches in wet sand. The 5cent coin is approx 19mm diam and will detect at 12 inches or so in wet sand.
The BHID will air test on the 20cent at 300mm and ID it at approx 240mm and the 5 cent will air test at 200mm and ID it at approx 160mm (divide by 25.54 to get inches from mm).
The in sand depth of the BHID seems to be very near to or slightly better than the air test figures in the All Metal GB mode depending on black sand mineralisation. The Disc mode only gets approx half the depth of the All Met Mode. The all Met Mode also target IDs.

The BHID is very well balanced like most Whites detectors when fitted with the stock coil.
If you want depth then a good qual PI is the way to go and I like the infinium and the Seahunter although it does not matter much which of the top brand PIs you get because they are all very good. If your beaches do not have a lot of black sand then you would like the BHID.

Also the Excalibre is is one of the best beach and surf detectors you could find, even an old Sov XS is fantastic on salt beaches but not waterproof. The EXcal is a WP Sov.
