Is the F22 a good machine?

Bruinvikes

I'm looking for opinions, both good and bad. What is a good coil to have on this machine? Any and all input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I really don't know much about it. It never seemed to take off from a marketing standpoint. Try reading any past posts in this Forum from any owner's of them.

With the introduction of the Patriot, a rebadged F70 at less than $400, and the price reduction of the F75 to the $500 range, those two present a much better value for two very good machines IMO.

I has a F22 and liked it with the stock coil. Bought it for my wife as a gift. Found out you can't make someone like this hobby.

The F22 will probably find coins with the best of them, under $250.00.

I'm not purchasing another machine at this time. I'm just wanting to get some reviews of the F22. I already have a F2 and F70. I know the F22 won't be as good as the F70 but just trying to get some input.

Bruinvikes, I had the F44 and I see no reason why the F22 would be much less of a coin machine. As far as I can tell, the main difference is that the F44 can ground balance for different soil conditions. It might have a few extra programs as well and go slightly deeper. The concentric coil is the same triangle shape as the F44 but slightly smaller which is not necessarily a disadvantage. If I remember correctly, both the F22 and F44 could be used in foul weather and I have used my F44 in light rain quite often. No worries. That was a major advantage to me. I would hunt places that were usually packed with not a soul in sight.

The F44 is chattery and that's essentially why I gave it up for an F5. Not sure if the F22 is the same way. The F22 is a lot of machine for the money but personally, I would not touch a machine that has a set ground balance. I hunt too many places that have very changing ground phase values.

I won myself a Fisher F22 and was curious of its capabilities.

Fisher Labs has a page on Facebook and they have a "Finds of the day contest". There is no prize awarded if you win find of the day BUT if you do get chosen you are automatically entered to win at the end of the month a free metal detector. When I first started submitting pics of my finds they were giving away the F19 model. when I saw that I had won for July I was surprised to see that I had won a F22. Like I stated earlier, I already have a F2 and a F70, I was just curious about what the F22 has to offer. Thank you all for your input.

Congrats Bruinvikes, in winning your F22!

I'm thinking it'll probably perform similar to your F2, which was in it's own right a decent detector for a fixed ground balanced entry level machine.

The fact that the F22 uses only two AA batteries compared to two 9v batteries on your F2, will certainly make it more economical, with less battery reserve time between changes though. It's got a few new features over your F2 also, so that should make detecting with it a little more interesting than your F2. I don't think the slightly higher frequency of the F22 would make much difference over the F2? I strongly agree with dfmike about the importance of some form of adjustable ground balance. I feel that's a must on any detector. Too bad the F22 has a fixed GB! I personally feel ALL current production detectors should have at least a basic manual GB system.

You mention a good coil to have on that machine. Since it is a fixed GB machine, if you intend on keeping it, I would consider adding a DD coil. I think it comes with a concentric. A DD coil will give a little better performance in bad ground, which could help mitigate it's lack of adjustable GB.

I hope you post your evaluation of your F22, especially how it compares to your F2.

Good Luck with your prize! Enjoy!
