is the explorer any good in wet sand?

Yes, it works really well in the mineralized wet sand.

It is the preferred beach detector in my area. Our beach's have some tough black sand. I should add that I have been using an Explorer since I believe Feb. 2001.

I'm sure others will answer also.

I use it when I am not planning on going into the surf.

It is fabulous on the the salt-water beaches in the dry sand, wet sand and even into the water. But, you better be careful in the water since it is not water proof.

As everyone else said, it's really incredible at the beach. Get yourself a real good SS scoop and be prepared to dig some deep holes.

I do take mine into the water but no more than ankle deep or so. I use a swingy thingy as a safety line so I don't accidentally drop it in the water.

Never turn your back to the waves and watch out for little kids carrying pails of water :)

I use mine all the time in wet beach sand both black and regular kind.... I can go from the dry sand right on down to the wet sand and into shallow water with no adjustments necessary. I love mine!!
