I was thinking about buying a e-trac but it seems like a lot of people are having trouble with iron,is their detectors not set right or is this a problem with the e-trac.I dont want to give up my explorer if the e-trac has any problems
How does your explorer react to iron. My SE, alot of the times, will give a good signal around the edges and falses a lot in the iron. I just thought that they all did that to some extent and it was usual. I am interested in this topic also.
I can say that iv used fisher a long time and didn't have as much problem with iron. Its not that the iron is falsing like crazy for me with the etrac its that the etrac is telling me so much about whats in the ground and I dont understand all the info yet. Now my cz6a would false like crazy in iron but i learned it after some time. Now im learning a new brand for me and a new detector so im just haven a little trouble with its language. I am finding stuff and some of it is way deep compared to my other units. So I still think the etrac is awsome and worth the money. Its just the learning curve thats got me rite now.
Oh and i noticed that when i did get a signal that didnt sound rite but did sound good enough to dig that when i would pinpoint the object that the cross hairs would drop down to the bottom of the screen into a place that was disced out. After digging a few of those that all turned out to be iron or nails i learned to watch the smart screen when pinpointing iffy targets.
The E-trac is in a league of its own.... like comparing a hydrogen Bomb to the fat Boy both have kill factor .....the Etrac will just Nuke more coins out the ground and make the competition STAND DOWN or Face Total Annihilation
I Hunt in Ferrous Audio......Mask out 35 to 27............2 or 4 Tones.........Dig all FE's up to at least 20.........
If the cursor 'head-butts' the Iron mask boundary......but the audio wants to hang in there.......then I investigate.
Is iron trying to mask a good target ?????????
Locate target in Motion disc mode.....NOTE THE APPARENT POSITION...
THEN, PIN-POINT by the PP button.....(That is an ALL METAL function)
The PP will nearly always lock onto the iron, in preference to a nearby non-ferrous target
DIFFERENT POSITION..?? ........CURSOR now in bottom-right of screen ?
That's the iron.....REMOVE IT.
NOW........PIN-POINT THE GOOD TARGET........GO get it, man........
Hard work, but oh boy it's magical to pull the ones that the 'rejectorists' have left behind.........TheMarshall
P.S.....The number of tones is down to your preference.....So is the extent of Iron mask.....Fe 35 to 30 will also be OK, but incur more audible iron signals.
You MUST be willing to learn the hard way, and then you will discover for yourself the realities of finding things others disc-out.
p.s. I don't hunt parks here in the UK, but then my E-Trac doesn't know that either...."He justs keeps rollin' along"
thanks for the info marshall i believe i will get a e-trac for sure when i get it i will have to ask some of you all questions since you all know alot about the e-trac.CANT WAIT TO GET THE E-TRAC BABY
To answer your questions on these. The 12x15 would be better for coin sized objects .
The 15X18 air testing with just nails discriminated out will hit a 8lb cannon ball at over three feet with no problem.
So your iron pans would show up at good depth with the 15X18 SEF. You will have to do some real digging though using this set up but it may be worth it.
Good luck
Get Andy's book on the Explorer and the E-Trac. About $20 and it will answer all the questions you ask. Don't think anyone would disagree that Andy is the master of the Explorers. If he's not, then he has included significant suggestions and instructions from OTHER masters. You can read the data for yourself and make decisions on that info rather than relying on other's opinions. It's not that the other opinions are not valid and fun to read, but knowing what's in that book allows you the independence to choose more wisely how you are going to hunt. Now! My experience is the E-Trac worked much better for me than my SE. A friend I hunt with kicks my butt with his Explorer II. The Minelabs are superior but to use them effectively you have to practice a lot and think a lot. But, that's what makes it fun for me! Specially when I know that I have the technology in my hand to find whatever is there. If I could just operate it better?...Jim.
