I use the 10 x 12 SEF coil all the time and I have never noticed any difference on the depth scale being off compared to other coils. I have noticed a difference on the bigger 12 x 15 SEF being a little off but I can live with that.
I have been using the 10x12 almost exclusively for several months now, mainly looking for deep civil war relics in mostly hunted out areas. When the targets are 9 inches or more deep the depth scale seems to want to peg it all the way down (which is fine with me, that tells me that I'm detecting a probably good target, and I usually dig a nice big 10 inch plug on those anyway). If it is less than 9 inches the depth scale is pretty accurate as far as I can tell. And don't let anyone tell you the 10x12 isn't a good coil or doesn't find small items, I'm finding small rivets and etc and the ground I'm searching has a ton of newer shallow targets that I'm normally passing up. I love my etrac and the 10x12 is a great coil!

So true....never rely on the scale...just get a good signal and dig it. I just found a silver Washington not more than 2" in the ground....last year I found a merc less than an inch.
I'm with you, I never even look at my depth meter. I listen for the right sound and check the FE/CO if it's bouncy and dig. The meter is thrown off so much by coins on edge, the halo affect, etc., that it's not worth looking at IMHO.
I think the depth scale is accurate to a point but thats only if you are directly over the target , and the larger coil is harder to pinpoint .i have had a signal that looked 6 inches deap with the bigger coil and then dig only to see that it was 1/2 inch but i was pinpointing in some trash and the target was a tad bit over, i have used the 10x12 the past 2 times out and i think it may be my everyday coil if anything it may show a tad deeper than actual
