Is the CZ70 Pro the digital equivalent to the analog CZ3D ?

I've been reading field reports and posts about the various CZ machines, trying to decide which one to get, and have been heavily leaning towards the CZ3D as I'm mainly looking for a unit to hunt old coins. Initially this lead me to believe the CZ3D was the way to go, but today I read a Field Test review from Lost Treasure on the CZ70 Pro and they pointed out that on the CZ70 Pro added a fourth tone/target ID specifically for old coins/relics which is I believe what FRL also did on the CZ3D. The same sites review on the CZ-70 Pro stated that "Realizing that detectorists could significantly benefit from the addition of a fourth (old coin/relic) audio identification tone and the additional visual target category provided by it. Fisher has recently introduced a new detector model, the CZ-70 Pro QuickSilver, which now incorporates a 4-tone audio identification system with corresponding meter indication. "

The CZ-70 Pro features a 4-tone audio I.D. system that produces a low tone (200Hz) for iron targets, a mid tone (450 Hz) for foil and tab I.D., a mid/high tone (800Hz) for old coin/relic I.D. and a high tone (1 kHz) for coin I.D.

The CZ-3D features a 4-tone audio I.D. system that produces a 200 Hz Iron, 350 Hz Foil, 450 Hz Tabs and 1 KHz Coin I.D. tone.

It seems to me that the CZ-70 Pro is almost better suited (at least on paper) for old coin hunting then the CZ3D, am I way off base here ?

Any pros or cons for the CZ3D over the CZ70 Pro, or vice versa ?

Thanks and happy hunting,
Brian

I would call it a digital CZ-5 with added tone. The CZ-3D has been changed significantly internaly over the other CZ's.

The CZ-70 does well at hunting as you suggested.

CZ70 pro is mounted on a pistol grip handle, has a notch system that is not linear in other words you can notch out any meter facet and leave the others in, gives depth up to 10 inches, square tab was changed to relic(added tone) with no change in size of meter facets, has hipmount where you have to use the hipmount attachment.Has a night light. and is a tad slower being digital. Also has the battery power on meter face in blocks. Not made anymore but can buy used with non transferrable warranty.Has a regular mode and salt mode used for saltwater beach hunting with no change in meter facets.

CZ3D has the conventional S handle, no notch just linear disc. depth to 8 inches square tab was also renamed relic(added tone) from other analog unit and the facets widths were changed to accomodate more older coins, for instance nickle facet was changed to accept older nickles which come in lower along with subtle changes in high end region of the meter especially the new relic facet. I am not a tech. and reading Tom Dankowski's articles will explain more fully, hipmount is attached to units control box, no night light, batterry power is audio tested by turning a knob. Still made and you can buy new with a five year warranty.Has two distinct mode with switch of a toggle one for newer areas and one for older areas which greatly changes meter facets.

Both weigh approx. the same and ergonoics are different some preferring either, are deep and feel the CZ3D is a tad better rel likeness for rusty nails and the like in my estimation. CZ3D parts are readily available and since the CZ70 pro is no longer made parts are not as available. All in all both excellent units and know I missed something along the line so here is my E-mail if further questions on your part. Detectdan@msn.com

In addendum standing along a field with old coins waiting i would feel confident with either unit.

Thanks Bill and Dan. I picked up a CZ70 Pro with the 10.5" coil (if it's like it is on the C$, it should be great for coins on edge) and the little 5" coil. I hope it wasn't a mistake picking this up, but I've really wanted to try the CZ70 Pro or the CZ3D for a while.

Brian
