A friend out here has been tearing it up with his CZ3D, finding a lot of nice old coins. I know it was recalibrated in favor of old coins, and that's exactly what I'd like to use it for.
My question is, what effectively will it do to find these old coins that the other CZs don't do, or don't do as well ? Is it just the meter and tones, or ?
Better ???? The 3D has been enhanced to respond, & ID silver coins better. It was designed to be a coin hunter in pre.1950 sites or sites with low foil trash.
So looking for older coins, and one likes the general feel & operation of the CZ series units, it would be the way to go.
In real old areas Nasa Tom's ideas really work. Don't go any deeper than conventional CZ's and loves rusty nails as well. Basically on the low end it enhanced the nickle segment to catch older nickles which come in lower and could be missed by a conventional CZ or give a foil to nickle bounce. Square tab was renamed relic and given a fourth tone and picks up a lot of oddball old coins along with gold coins, tokens and even large 10 kt. gold rings. Google Tom Dankowski metal detector as he has a nice article on the workings of a CZ3D which will explain fully. Basically dig more to find more but in this mode you would dig lots of junk in newer areas so with the switch of a toggle you basically have a conventional CZ for newer areas, Have used every CZ model ever made I now have a CZ3D as presently the only CZ fisher makes and it gives you a old coins mode and a mode for newer areas and saltwater beaches.I see you have been advertising for one and now you see why they are hard to find unless you buy new..
I picked up a used CZ-3D and it does love old coins. Hunted a friends house - about 80 years old - that gave me a buffalo nickel and a pair of gunner wings from WW2. Previously I hunted it with my DFX and X-Terra 70 and they missed them.
It does love old iron but if you sweep both ways you should here the tone break up on iron - but not always. And it's a slow machine compared to the DFX and X-Terra.
Its a great unit, cant say as to how other czs are, but yes it will find those deep coins. I dug 3 barbers the other day at about 6 - 7 inches, foil and nails can be a bit annoying tho, I only dig foil hits because thats whare all my buffalo and V nickels ring in as. But when its an actual piece of foil thats 2 inches down my depth always reads 6 inches down for some reason. but thats just a minor annoyance compared to some of the coins ive dug. The reason I baught mine was to hunt foundation sites, and im always ending the day with more keepers than my hunting partner.
hi problab69 i see on your post where you said your cz-3d id v and buffalo nickels in the foil icon . was wondering is this doing this in the enhanced mode. if so i had the problem and sent mine to nasa tom last year and he recalibrated it. now all my old nickels come jn hi-tone and lock on nickel icon. thanks mike
Nope, every V & Buff comes in on foil, every time, and yes in enhansed. War nickels bounce from high to foil, I have to send mine in at the end of the season also. my headphone jack crapped out on it.
new nickels come in as nickel sqtab bounce, older ones ring up as foil. yeah, i have no idea what kind of machine they sent me but everyone who has one on here find items in the facet whare they are supose to show up in, so who knows, maybe they sent me the display model. It finds deep silver and deep large cents tho, but for being less than 2 years old and having the phones jack crap out kinda makes me wonder about that great fisher technology. and i cant send it in now when the season is at its peek, so i have to make due with what i have. it wasnt until i dug a deep foil hit that i found out whare the older nickels ring in as, but every time i dig a nickel hit its usually a newer nickel or a square tab. in enhansed mode square tabs ring in a lot as nickel, so yes ive had some very confusing hunts. gum wrappers and other foil that are less than 3 inches down pinpoint as 6 inches down. I can always tell when its a deep silver or large cent tho, that i can say.
ill probably send it in around late november, when i baught it, it took over 3 weeks to get the thing tho, what a horror story that was. I called them after 2 weeks only to find out they didnt ship it yet, i was like WTF!....they didnt have the pinpointer in stock so i had to wait another month for that, then when i got it that didnt work either. i had to open it up and reset a capasitor, the thing still wont vibrate....all i can hope for is better service when i send my machine in later on. I dont know if i want it recalibrated, im too use to what signals to dig on it as it is.
Yes, This was baught new, and sorry to say im experiencing other problems with it now. I decided to hunt out at some foundations earlier today, I couldnt even ground balance, heres the deal, have you ever hunted next to or near an electric fence? ....the meter and tones just go wacko, like...blip....blip...blip, now this is a foundation site, way the hell up in the woods, no phone lines, no electric lines, I mean theres nothing out there...lol...just rocks and trees!!...and i just put new batteries in it thinking it would perform better. I drove all the way up there and didnt want to call it a wasted trip so i just set the ground on 5 and tried to see what i could find, the thing chirped and sputtered the whole time, I did manage a few relics, some cutlery, harmonica reeds, lantern parts, but no coins....the relics rang in great, but there were so many ghost signals at the end of each swing. Talk about agravating!! ...I paid a lot of money for this thing, and now i have to send it in for repairs already? ...doesnt make sence......when i first got it, it found everything, and i mean everything! no coin was safe when i was in the field, i love this machine,
ya see my delema is the fact that this is when i hunt the most, this is my peek season, it could be 110 in the shade and ill be out there digging, i have a whites spectrum as a back up, but that just sucks the batteries in two days. I guess i have some figuring to do, ...do i send it in and lose out on hunting time? or do i wait till the seasons over....whenever i think about sending it in, i always remember that when i baught it, it took over 3 weeks just to get it.
it sounds to me like you have little choice but to send it in!..call the 800 number and ask for felix!..tell him the deal, and trust him to take care of it for you!..to be honest,i ALMOST bought one, however decided to go with the f-75,and have never regretted my decision!..best of luck with it,and keep us posted!..fisher, i believe has gotten much better with repair, and expedites return of the detector to you.
i have a brand new cz-5 out of the box ,great on anything, but do not forget the best relics & coin detector ever built and that my friend is the 1266 X ,THAT HOT TAMALE HAS OUT HUNTED ANY CZ'S THAT I HAVE HAD!!ITS ONE OF A KIND,THEY NEED TO START MAKING THEM AGAIN!JUST SET AND FORGET IT.IF YOU EVER FIND A NICE ONE JUMP ON IT
I have found more with my 1266 fisher than any other machine I have owned and fisher needs to bring this machine back into production again. my cz70 is a nice machine but the 1266 is still the best coin and relic hunter fisher ever made.
