is the choice MXT?

Hi everyone,

I've been out of the hobby for about 20 years but want to get back in now. Have had luck with White`s in the past so I feel comfortable with this company.......even though previous unit was very basic (2900/D) it was good quality for the money spent. As you might imagine,my head has been spinning with the numerous brands and models now available! Without spending 3 months researching, I think the MXT will more than meet my needs. I live in MA and think that I have plenty of land as well as water hunting grounds available for a hobby enthusiast. I'm fairly certain that the MXT is a good choice, but I'd really appreciate any feedback including best place to buy.
Thanks,
David

[size=medium]you'll do well to consider a used unit. can be had for about $400.00. a used mxt pro can be had for around $600-$700.00 .
you'll also want to get the book " The MXT Edge", by jeff foster. if ya own a mxt you should own the book. jmho. the book doesn't cover the improvements on the MXT PRO but does cover the MXT over all. the new stuff on the Pro version is a bacl-light, Ground grab and tones. otherwise the pro is just another mxt.

David ~ I've had my MXT for 2 years now and really love this machine. The MXT has found items that I never would have found in the past with other units I've owned.

Hi David,

I was in the same boat as you. I had a Whites 3900D since I was a teenager. When I finally upgraded this last year, I looked at several brands and models. I was familar and comfortable with Whites and I looked at their various choices. I was looking at M6, MXT, and DFX and finally bit the bullet and got the MXT Pro. I wish I had made this jump years ago as I love this machine. Like mentioned previously, The MXT Edge book is a helpful tool as well. I actually bought the book a month before I got the detector and read it again and again so I would have some familiarity with the detector. Now, using it is sort of like instinct.

You'll probably want to get some smaller coils than that large 12" that comes with it. If you hunt open fields it will be good, but I'm mostly hunting parks, private residences, etc; The 9.5 is nice, and I use the little 5.3 about 90% of the time.

If you get one, it will have a small learning curve, but once you get over that hump, you'll love it. It took me a bit to get used to multiple tones but now I love it.

Good luck,

Rodney

Thanks Rodney.....I bit the bullet yesterday..should receive new MXT in a couple of days. Hopefully will get in some time before the ground freezes. Again, thanks for all the helpful advice.

Thanks Matt...mines on its way. Looking forward to using yet. Got a question though...any problem using MD at beach during the winter?

Thanks again,

David
