Is the C$ or Excel able to GB @ salt beaches?

Checked the messages and didn't really notice anyone ask if these units are capable of ground balancing in wet salt sand.

IF the Excel can not GB to a particular location, does it try to gb as close as possible or does it default to some predetermined level?

Thanks
Tony

Makes sense Mike, after all the C$ does have the salt mode, thanks.

I wonder if you could GB the C$ on the beach while NOT in the salt mode... probably not, and probably same for the Excel.

Do you prefer the C$ over the other CZs you have on the beach?

Tony

wet sand, you need to switch to salt mode & GB again. This is the way I do it. Now, as far as the C$'s performance on the beach compared to a CZ. I think they are equal, BUT when you hit black sand with the C$, you will have to drop sensitivity down as well as on the CZ's, but I the black sand seems to affect the C$ a little more then the CZ's. Also if you get black sand trapped between the coil & cover of the C$, it will cause it to act erratic and false badly, thats why I usually run without a coil cover on the beach on the C$.

I feel the C$ is probably one of the best all around machines on the market today, but with that being said, also eventhough I really like the C$, I still love the CZ's for simplicity & depth. Also the CZ70 is still my favorite beach machine, second would be the C$.

Hi Tony,

At a couple spots I hunt with the Excel it is nearly impossible to find a clean spot to GB. When this happens I either use the setting it was last at (its held in memory) or if that does not seem to be working properly I use the fixed preset mode and then adjust the sensitivity to suit. My thinking is that there is probably some kind of default that "might" take place in low mineral or even saline ground, but I have no way of proving that out here.

Thanks Jack,

You have approcahed the reason I asked in the first place.

IF the excel can NOT balance out, does it 'try' and stay as close as it possibly can OR does it go off in la la land somewhere?

You are right, it does remember the last GB setting BUT does it maintain that last setting while attempting to re-GB at a bad area? or is it gone?

Not that it is anywhere near the wet salt environment, one could carry a piece of ferrite to balance to and at least be set as close as most preset GB'd units out there.

Tony

I know I did not balance over any metal I figure I am good to go. Now, if that happens and it is NOT working right in the wet sand, about all you can do is try the default preset mode or go back to the dry sand, rebalance and see if it works in the wet.

Tony if you have a piece of ferrite check to see if it balances to it from the preset mode. If you get the 4 beeps that answers a lot of questions.

I use my Excel on Southern Calif. salt beaches. I GB on the dry sand and then take it as far as I can on the wet sand and back off on sens as needed. I can usually get pretty close to the surf before it acts up too much to use. But, I can hunt most of wet sand zone this way.
