Is the BH 505 Same as a Sharp Shooter II

I'm looking at buying a used BH Pioneer 505. The closest match that I can find is the Sharp Shooter II. Am I right on this match or off by a mile? Anybody swing a 505, likes / dislikes? Any help greatly appreciated.

I have owned the Pioneer 202 (Quick Draw II), the Pioneer 505 (Sharp Shooter II), and now the LandStar...the 505 is about the same as the Land Star minus a few inches of depth and the manual ground balance....If you read the Sharp Shooter II manual, it is the same as the 505....

You left out the most important feature, to me, and that is the depth gauge. In January I bought a SSII and within minutes after buying it blind, when I was at the train station in Yonkers on my way back to NYC and the train just arriving at the station, I realized this although I cannot explain why I didn't notice it when it was being demonstrated by the seller; I should have worn my glasses! It was a big disappointment 'cause in distant illustrations the lower display with the four arrows make it look as if it was a depth gauge but it isn't.:nono: I kept it because I bought it primarily to search in a Florida beach so the depth of the found objects was not going to be important, I would eventually get the object with my sand scoop. But when we aborted the trip to Florida I was now stuck with a detector that I was not going to go to the park with. :nono: So, in quick time I sold it on eBay and made a huge profit.

I started out with a detector without a depth gauge and it was a constant frustration. You gotta have a depth gauge to have a fair chance of knowing how deep to dig. Without it you don't know if the target is in China!

I have a SSII, but even without the depth, I still do well. The silver quarter I got yesterday was about five inches down, but the signal was loud and clear. I could have spent more, but I am happy with it. I had been out of the hobby for some time and wanted a good basic machine to get back into it with

Thanks guys, this is why I ask before buying something that I might regret. You're right Golden Silver, after reading the Sharp Shooter II manual online there is no mention of depth reading at all and the meter just tells you what settings you have selected. This is'nt what I'm looking for right now, better pass it up and wait for something better to come along.

505 is a great MD we use ours all the time easy and quick and finds good stuff some of my best finds is with the505. we all so have a M6 and ACE 250

The Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505, or it's other incarnation the Sharp Shooter II, is a very good detector sure to please anyone who uses one. I just pointed out a flaw in the design that might matter to some as it did to me. I'm glad that it's satisfying those that do not require a depth gauge for it offers a lot of features that some more expensive brands do not.

The 505 has a Probable depth Gauge on it at the bottom I dont know abought the sharp shooter II THE Gauge on ours works fairly well.

I wasn't specific in my reply: I was not talking about the 505 which does have a depth gauge. I was referring strictly to the Sharp Shooter II which DOESN'T have a depth gauge. So when BH_LANDSTAR mentioned it in his reply, his reply was what I was replying to.:drinking:

thats crazy, I bought a Quick Draw II from amazon and was about to fork out the extra money for a sharpshooterII because I thought it was a better model. But I much rather have a depth gauge than a pinpoint feature. thanks for pointing that out for everyone. It does costs more than the quickdraw II but NO DEPTH gauge. lol I thought it was kinda like the ace 150->250.

I gotta look closer at the pics of the detectors when I reply...Funny...I have owned both Pioneer models and they DID have depth guages...Strange that the true BH versions would not...???
