Is Something Wrong With DeLeon?

Well, I got my DeLeon out and unboxed it finally; all was going well until I got to the wing nut and bolt that attaches the coil to the shaft, much to my dismay the nut has no threads and is to small for the bolt to boot. I said to myself "self, no problem I can call Tesoro and get a new one, but in the mean time I'll get a nylon one at the hardware store". All that would have been fine, but when I turned it on for a working test it was set in all metal mode which is the way I like to hunt when it's not trashy. Adjusting the threshold level proved to be problematic because the audio seemed to be erratic, never achieving a steady minimum threshold audio level because of the bleeping in and out, not a steady smooth tone that I'm used to until I turned the level up so high you would not be able to hear any deep targets.
I won't even mention the toy likeness of the battery doors as they are a JOKE!! I can see keeping cost down but those door are ridiculous.
Maybe I just got a lemon and I probably did, after all they are always one or two in every run, but I really can't believe that this unit made it through the inspection process; A real disappointment! but this little inconvenience won't dampen my high opinion of the company, because I'm a huge fan and every company is entitled to a few mistakes and a company like Tesoro has proved themselves time after time and will do so again.
Any Thoughts or is this normal for the Deleon? If it is normal I will adapt and learn it just as I have all the others.
Happy Hunting and Happy New Year!

I forgot to add that I took it to four different sites yesterday, two of which had no homes or power lines around them so it seems to rule out electrical interference in my mind, though I could be wrong.

I get that wavy threshold when I turn on my Cortes while I'm in the cellar, also in discriminate mode. Don't get it in the field tho. Your problem sounds like electrical interference.

My neighbor has invisible fence for his dog, drives the threshold on my Cortes crazy if I get within 50 ft of it.

It does sound like interference of some kind. Try multiple locations far away from any electrical interference, including no cell phone. Does the machine respond differently? Does it quiet down?

If you bought it from a dealer, take it back and ask for his help. You may have one that is not working properly. It could be the machine, or it could be the coil. Do you have any other coils you could try on it? Do they act the same way? If so, then try your DeLeon coil on another Tesoro machine, does it work fine on that machine?

The doors on the DeLeon, Cortes, and Tejon only look like "cheap". I have the original doors on both my Tejon and Cortes, and I got the first production machine off the assembly line on both those units and gone through countless batteries. Doors are still working fine with not a sign of any weakness. Besides, if you do have a problem with them, which I doubt you will, Tesoro will replace them free of charge.

i read the same thing about the doors all the time, the number of bends it is capable of doing is probably in the area of about 10,000 times. my brother has a invention that is made of a similar material and that is about the cycle life of it. could it be less yes, but with a warranty that it has why worry about it. plus the way it designed you don't have to change the whole box just the doors. and i have never had a problem with the doors coming open like some have said. plus with these doors they will not fall off and loose them, or are brittle they are a little flexable. what seems to be cheap and a bad design is really smart, and easy to change if they should fail. good hunting.
