Is noise cancelling necessary every time on the xterra 70

If you turn it on and ground balance and you have a steady thresh hold hum is noise cancelling necessary or is it just when you have a eratic thresh hold from interference ?

Yes, best practices. Just because you can't "hear" it, doesn't mean the detector can't hear it. I run Auto-N/C every time, and many times it will choose a channel on it's own, different than the original channel at the start of the process. And this despite the fact that I can't "hear" any interference or see any stability issues. That tells me that it can "hear" the interference internally better than the operator.

Also if you change coils during the same detecting session you should re-N/C. And obviously if you find some instability it's the first thing to check. I have tested the N/C feature extensively with Terra vs Terra on the same channel, and you can get about 45ft of demonstrable interference with the coils pointed at one another. Then a simple activation of the Auto-N/C on one of them and all goes quiet. Interesting experimenting if you have two Terras.

Winter! I have had enough and it is only February. Months to go before the thaw.

I do it at the start of each hunt. Now my question is this. If I am in a large area say a big sports complex/ fields. If I do a re GB should I also re NC? Thanks in advance, Beale.

I have never used NC but I guess I should start. Which comes first GB or NC? How should the MD be positioned when NC? Thanks

N/C first.

1. Do not have headphones connected.
2. Do not have any metal(diggers, shovels) on your body.
3. Cell phones & pagers OFF.
4. Hold coil waist high, pointed at ground, out away from your body.
5. Reach up and push Auto-N/C mode button.
6. Wait till Auto-N/C completes signaled by a tone.
