Is my Excal II broke?

Tampa44

New member
I started having an issue with my excal II. About once every three to five minutes it lets out a quick loud squeal (like when you hit a soda can). The first thing I did was to change the battery, no luck. Next I played with the sensitivity and still no luck. I always hunt with zero disc. and the sensitivity around 1 Oclock. I decided at this point to hunt in all metal mode and it still squealed. I still was able to hunt and recover targets but needless to say it started driving me nuts after an hour or so. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

It does sound like a battery issue. It also could be a poor battery connection. I use silicone grease at the connection every time I change batteries or the pod. Look to see if there is some rust or corrosion at the battery connection, if yes clean it and apply a very light coating of the grease and try it.

make sure the little space is there between each of the battery prongs that are inserted into the pod from the ikelite connector male piece - use a sharp knife to spread them carefully if the space is squeezed...
