Is much of a performance difference between the Racer and For Core?

Dan(NM)

Well-known member
I have a Fors Gold, basically the same machine as the Core, minus the beach mode, and was wondering if I'm giving up any performance by not using the Racer? I have all the coils for the Fors gold including the 5x10, so I have that covered. Thanks.

IMO CoRe gold is slightly hotter on gold and other low conductors---Racer slightly hotter on higher conductors. Also IMO Audio is slightly cleaner on FoRS unit.
And the display being on the pod of Racer vs ob the side for FoRs.

IMO if you are pleased with the handling/weight of FoRs Gold, you are not gaining anything by getting a Racer.

FORs with stock coil -----feels nice---------Racer is more nose heavy

Racer with small coil feels nice=====CORE unit with small coil is tail heavy.

Both very good units. Iron monsters is what they are!!!!!!!!!!

And epoxy coils.ears on the FORS------overall better that the coils on the Racer.

The Fors Gold had done me very well in the heavy trash so far, just didn't want to leave anything on the table by not using the Racer. I really like the feel of the Fors.

YOU ARE CORRECT WITH EVERY WORD YOU SAID IN YOUR POST! DINGO.

They basically have the same DNA....

The CoRe is SLIGHTLY and I mean SLIGHTLY hotter on Small low conductors vs the Racer...most noticed on isolated small itmes non ferrous in nature

Yet in dense iron saturation I feel the Racer has a slight to Noticable edge in unmasking Buttons ( In other words round low conductors)when both are using the OOR5...and for me its most noticed in 3 tone belive it or not...

I hate to say it but I use 3 tone in iron with the Racer and OOR5 now more than the 2Tone.( and Im a 2 tone freak)..theres something in the Programming (yes theres BEHIND the scenes programming going on when you select the tone modes) that allows those mid tones to LOCK up on you that just does not happen in 2 tone.. the 2 tone seems more excitable in iron as it should since its a MORE Pronounced VCO hyper gain mode. And the 2 tone is very TELLING in if its ferrous or non ferrous but yet at the same time for TOP layer to say 4 inch mark the 3 tone interacts with machine gun iron in a different way. For me the 3 tone Mode of the Racer with OOR5 is more SLEUTHY in iron than the CoRe with OOR5...in 2 tone its not as noticable but in 3 tone theres some serious in your face mid tones that tun out to be Good targets easily heard....Not to say the CoRe does not hear them too but for some reason the 3 tone when coupled with OOR5 in dense iron saturation has a slightly better ROUND sound to the targets.. and they will be target's that no machine seems to want to hear.. Yet the Turkeys with OOR5 nab them.. EERIE results at times...a dead site hunted to death with some exact tight fast world class unmasker for uears all of a sudden give up some goodies with nothing more than turning unit on and scanning the ground...So the word EERIE comes to mind.. LOL!!

For me the CoRe swings the large 15" coil better than the Racer...

But for MY Site work I prefer the Racer as of now..

I find myseld wehn goign for DEPTH using the 2 tone especially in mineral..

But when the site is contaminated and has quit producing I Opt for 3-tone(MODE) and see target's materialize with amazing clarity of signal..3 tone in iron listen to that mid tone and its mesmerizing at times...

Nice post Keith - I certainly agree that the 15" coil on the Fors CoRe is a pleasure to swing & very sensitive to small targets

Thank you for wealth of information sir - Highly appreciated

Keith - I think you nailed it on the three tone verses the Two tone. There has to be some other behind the scenes programming going on besides just a tone change. The three tone really pulls the goodies out of the nails and iron.

I have been told no it's just that the racer comes in a better package for my hunting

Not enough performance difference for me to worry about it.

Ironically I did the first major review of a Nokta product in the U.S. on the FORS Gold. One of my comments regarded the side display on the FORS and lack of visibility while in use. I opined that a standard forward facing display would be preferable. I very much anticipated the Racer because it was billed as basically being a CoRe in a different package.

Then I got the Racer and compared to my CoRe it came down to balance and feel. The Racer has an odd angle in the handle that combined with the nose heavy attribute makes it harder on my arm than the CoRe. The Racer is fine with the small coil but with stock or larger coil the CoRe has a much better balance and feel - to me. So after my fuss about forward displays my Racer ended up finding a new home with Keith and I still have the CoRe.
