Is metal detecting allowed on Maui?

My mom will be in Maui for three weeks and asked if I had ever heard of anyone detecting there. I told her that I have heard of PI detect fists on Oahu but that certainly someone here would know. Anyone ever tried detecting on Maui?

Why would it be banned on the beach sand on Maui.? I do not think so, that would not make any sense. I detected in Oahu on Waikiki Beach with no problems. If you do, keep the top of your feet covered because I sunburnt mine. On one of my trips I spent 5 weeks there.

It's paradise and beautiful, and the weather is gorgeously warm(perfect and not too hot) in November to March, good idea to stay there for the entire winter if you can.

Well I sold my PI Garrett to a fella over there and he wrote back that he is cleaning up on coins from the beaches. so detecting must be OK as far as I know'Don

A while back I saw Tom Massey of Gold Fever do a show about metal detecting on Waikiki beach. He was detecting at night in the water. Not sure what detector he was using, but he was pretty successful that night. I think he chose to do it at night so he would not be disturbing anyone on the beach or in the water. Don't see why Maui would be any different than Oahu.
