Is it worth while to MD river gravel bars?

I could be wrong, but I don't think many of you relic hunter's are in my area. I have a lot of places to check out and I am waiting for permission to MD some really great locations. One place is beside a CW cemetery and Union encampment. My MD'ing the old houses in the area are producing CW finds. Mean while I thought about MD'ing the gravel beds in the river which is in the center of all the activity mainly union. How do things hold up in the water? The shoreline has changed some and I will check the embankment also.

There will be little or no patina on the bullets, at all. Other than that thats a good place to hunt. We have a place here that had a yankee camp on the high bank side of the river. Now there is a swimming hole there. At the time of the war the swimming hole was used for a low water crossing. We have hunted both banks and have found a lot of bullets, a lock plate and rifle furniture. I started working down the banks into the water hoping to find bullets that had fell into the water when the banks eroded. And I have. Last year I finaly got out into the swimming hole itself. About 1 of 10 signals was either jewlery or a minie ball. You will find lots of pull tabs but I know in my heart somebody threw a box plate in the river. You will also find gobs of coins. I paid for a lot of batteries last year with just the money I found wading around. Try it as soon as you can. I have so much confidence in the place my wife bought me a MD I can use in the river this year and not have to worry about getting my Cibola wet...d2

My buddy pulled a Springfield musket from the Potomac several years ago and it has 85% of the wood still intact, very Cool! It is still cocked and loaded. He also dug a sword belt plate and SNY plate. Both have an almost Black patina. I live between Frederick and Gettysburg, if your ever up this way give me a shot, love to swap stories.

I have just been a coin shooter for years. So you have to give me time to accumulate some relic stories. The area I am in now is giving up some CW stuff. If you ever head west to the end of 68 Pm me. I haven't got any hot spots yet, but I can show you places 10 mile from me that will make you drool.
