G,day Guys im thinking about getting a Ace 250 from our Aus dealer for $425 aus dollars.I currently use a GTAX 1000 with various coils 4" super sniper,5x10 eliptical,12" & 10"x14" eliptical. Can i use these coils on the Ace or is it a different plug type.
How would the Ace 250 match up to the GTAX1000?
I use the GTAX down the beach a fair bit in beach mode & do quite well, how would the ace handle beach sand wet or dry?
The price on the Ace 250 is a incredible price for such a machine-very temped
Need advice do i upgrade or stay with what ive got for a while until Garrett bring out another new surprise.
Cheers Freddy

Hi Freddy ,i don`t have the ACE 250 but it sounds like a great machine. I also have a GTA 1000 along with the Master Hunter CX and the 2500. I do not think the coils will work on the new 250. I would keep the 1000 because of all the features that it has and it is just a darn great detector. I would get the 250 in addition to the 1000. It does not hurt to have 2 great machines. Have a great New Year.

Freddy
I also have a GTAX 1000 here in OZ (I think I have emailed you before?), and I purchased a brand new Ace 250 from the states for $300AU including shipping. I have taken it out a few times now, and it is a great little machine but I would not sell my 1000 as it still has it's advantages. The 1000 has 24 notch dicrimination, the 250 doesn't. I have dug more trash with the 250 than my trusty GTAX, but I am still getting used to it.
My son is doing really well with the Ace 250, and it looks like I will be purchasing another for my wife and other boys to use. A friend of mine also purchased 2 of these Ace 250's for his boys, and is absolutely wrapped in them. He uses a Tesoro Cortes, and is quite taken with these machines. He is of the same opinion as I am though, and won't be trading his main detector (Tesoro) for one. I would not be looking at the purchase of an Ace 250 as an upgrade from your 1000, as I still reckon these older Garrets are one hell of a machine.
I hope this helps?

Hi Peter im certantly not going to sell the GTA.Lets just say ive got a lot of spare change to spend, like $600+ in 6months ive found here around melb.Im saving up for a water detector $1000- $1800 then i can detect the deeper regions of the beaches & scoop up those goldies & rings that lie there.
But if i get the Ace 250 i can use it as a back up machine for my GTAX.What is it like on the Aus Coins Peter ? Pre Decimal & Dec does it lock on with solid tone or bounce around a bit.
What is the deepest coin you have dug with the Ace so far?
Does the Ace 250 have a backlight?
Hey Pete i bagged a 1956 Florin about 2 weeks ago from the beach after a storm then a couple of pennies then a shilling couldnt read date they were encrusted.
Catch ya later Pete
Freddy

The deepest coin I have found so far is a 1922 Sixpence at 6 inches. When this machine hits any pre decimal coin it goes off like a 'fire cracker'. I have found a few pennies, two threepence, two florins, four sixpence and a shilling with it so far in the 'pre decimal' range.
It also loves our one and two dollar coins. I must say it probably id's our one and two dollar coins a little better than mw GTAX. It gives a real solid bell tone.
I took it to the beach today and found about $3.50 in change and a ladies silver ring. I must admit it is a little more stable in the darker sand than my 1000. It is a nice light machine to use, and I too only bought it for a back up machine. My kids like it so much, it looks like I will be getting another.
Drop me an email again, and I hope this helps.
Cheers

If your going to upgrade go to the GTI series. Plain and simple its Garretts top of the line..

Cheers Freddy, I would keep the GTAX 1000 as a backup detector. And if you can afford it get the ACE 250. I hear that the new detector that GARRETT is working on is a relic machine. You could alway trade in your GTAX 1000 or your 250 later for the new detector that comes out if it is as good as the ACE 250. Which I now that all detectors that Garrett puts out are great detectors. But it is always best to have two detectors or more for backup and for different types of detecting.
Happy Hunting!
