Has anyone ever tried to buy just the brain of the GT the blue control box from Minelab brand new ?? i want to build my own metal detector over the Winter the way i want it . Thanks for any help Jim

I've bought just the control box on Findmall. With Minelab discontinuing the GT, they may well sell just a control box to you - use the "contact us" link on their web page and write them - I'm sure you will get an answer from them directly, one way or the other.

I highly doubt that Minelab would be willing to sell the control board by itself (Heck, I couldn;t even convince them to sell me a replacement stickers for my Excal )

There is a seller out of Las Vegas on Ebay that occasionally sells just the guts of Minelab detectors. He usually lists them in large lots and they go fast, but it might be worth keeping an eye on there. I can't remember his seller ID at the moment, but if I do I'll send it via PM.

Got my eye out for a used Sovereign control box only. With all my coils and my shafts along with a few meters and such, all I need to do is get my hands on a control box and suddenly I've got an extra Sovereign in my arsenal to use. I think I might try getting my hands on the original Sovereign and see how it does. I know some say they are prone to hot rocks but somebody recently told me for him the original was the deepest of them all, or at least after he does a few mods to it. That's got me intrigued to tinker with one myself.

I could also use a second control box so I don't have to take a few minutes to swap my GT control box from my land and water shafts. I'm picking up that $20 waterproof Plano box Kbron2000 is using and, even though I can just throw the GT into it when water hunting, having another control box that can stay in the Plano box will be a few minutes saved in going from land to water. Also thinking of making a waterproof meter to stick on my water shaft just for giggles, and this winter I'm also planning on rigging up a waterproof PP switch on the grip of my water shaft like the one I plug into my GT when land hunting. PP mode in the water or on the beach is doing wonders for me in depth in bad minerals.

Somebody once said that the Sovereign and Excalibur are the hot rods of detectors that are more customized than any other detector. I have no doubt about that. They lend themselves to easy modifications or shaft changes as well. Maybe I'll put some hot rod red and orange flames on my control box.
