Is it OK to use a metal bolt and nut....

Gort

New member
to attach the coil to the rod? I know in the past a few detectors used metal bolts. I am asking about using it on the Xterra 50.

Since it is a non-motion all metal mode.

Thanks for the input JW. That is what I was thinking as the motion disc mode should not pick it up as it really has no motion. I was just wondering if the ground balance would cancel it out in Pinpoint.

Gort,

Not likely the GB would cancel a nut and bolt out being that close to the coil and you wouldn't want it to cause if it could balance out a bolt, it could balance out a target as well. Having anything metal close to the coil isn't a good idea as it could possibly reduce the sensitivity of the detector. You can usually buy extra nylon nuts and bolts at a hardware store or Lowe's. The nylon holds up well, you just want to be careful to avoid over-tightening since they strip easier than metal. Many of us even avoid having excess coil wire on the lower shaft and wind any excess coil wire around the top of the shaft close to the detector box.
