i find myself looking at the dates of coins at the store when the cashier give me change......is it just me or do all hunters do this?

nope...me too, and I also find myself noticing jewelry people are wearing...sort of like a vulture or something...even going through Craigslist in the lost and found section for lost jewelry or rings for ideas of typical drop zones....

This is funny, and I can relate. My thing is while I'm out driving I notice the landscape now more than ever. I'll be driving along and see an old farm house with old out buildings and I'm saying to myself..."Oh man, look at that place, I'd LOVE to dig that one". I'm still fairly new to this hobby so I'm learning new stuff all the time. Its VERY addictive and I'm loving it. Until recently I was into drag racing for about 15 years, which was a total rush, but this is a different high and waaaaaaaay cheaper. H H.

Actually, I was doing that long before my first metal detector. My grandfather's friend showed me his coin collection when I was still in the single digits. It made an impression on me... been checking dates ever since.

LOL, I do all the things stated above and I am constantly looking at the ground looking for anything that may have been lost on a side walk or a parking lot or any other place I roam. Dirt slinger, I have seen dozens of places that I've thought man would that be a neat place to hunt. I am not much of a door knocker (my people skills are unrefined:wacko: ). Mud at work the other day I told one of my female co workers that I was really going to enjoy finding some of the rings she wears when she loses them. That did'nt go over as well as I thought it would. Go figure.

I think you guys been spying on me. I drive down the road and eyeball houses, barns, parks, etc all the time. And I always check the dates of coins in change. Last week I was in store and as I walked up to the checkout, the cashier was looking at a coin. She had just gotten a wheat cent from someone. I asked if she wanted to trade and she tossed in onto the counter and said, just take it. so I did.

i do the same but take it a step further to the bills in the register as well, just yesterday i got a $2 bill. and a few months ago i got a pristine $10 from 1934. the old bills stand out if u look at the stack of cash, the green pigment is generally brighter then what is used today.

I think eyeballing the ground is a side-effect of having a detector, and it pays . Found a $50 bill in a large parking lot several years ago.

I not only check every cent of change I get, but I also always seem to glance down at the ground every few seconds when I am walking.
