Is it just me or would this upset you just a little bit.

I bought a used CTX from a gentleman here on the forums for $1,250. I was told the machine have no issues whatsoever. I received the detector on Thursday afternoon plugged the battery into the charger and left it until Friday night. I get the machine up and running Friday night, I plug the headphones into it and find out the headphone jack is defective. I am getting audio from the speaker on the machine and through the headphones at the same time. When I wiggle the cord around, the audio cuts in and out on the machine. This tells me the headphone jack has a short in it. When I contacted the seller he tells me I should have paid an extra $1,000 for a brand new machine instead of buying a used one and expecting it to be perfect. I simply asked him if he would help out with the shipping or any costs involved any refuses to do anything . I never expect a used machine to be perfect, but when I'm told that a machine that I'm buying doesn't have any issues or problems that's what I expect. So my question is is it just me or would that upset you too.

If he told you there was no issues with the detector, knowing full well that there was, he's an asshole plain and simple.
Perhaps you should name and shame him so no other person ever buys anything off him.

Look like and I could be wrong and I have been. But on the 3rd page jeffc is selling a ctx for $1250. On the last post it says : Sold. Thanks Dan and Finds. So if this is not the forum member then I didn't see anyone else with a post like that. If this is not the person then I apologize. If some thing is selling and in good condition (work like it should, minor scratches) for half the price is a steal. But when thinks like your situation , it should have been disclosed to you. GS

I wasn't going to name any names until I spoke with Minelab. But, the cat is kind of out of the bag. To his credit he said he did not know that the headphone jack was screwed up. What really upset me is the fact that he wasn't willing to make things right one way or the other.

If that was the machine and it does indeed have 1+ years of warranty on it , the only cost of repair might just be a little inconvenience on your part. Irritating for sure but Minelab may send you the return shipping ,,I don't know their policy. First thing I would do is call them and see if they agree with your diagnosis of the problem and check their return/repair policy. If the seller is being and continues to be unhelpful , everyone should know for possible future dealings

Maybe he didn't know , but by the comets to you after you approached him seem like he knew. I myself would be upset , so it's just not you I think most of us would be mad also. I would have split the cost myself . But hey not everyone would. GS

If Minelab agrees with your diagnosis you should be lucky and only have to return the wireless transmitter/headphone jack module and not the whole detector. Cheap shipping.
You might also consider getting a set of Detector Pro's underwater headphones for the CTX. I'm sure you go detect the Pecos River in Carlsbad frequently. :)

wow having a defective headphone port like this would really tick me off.

This is how he chose to handle my concerns with the machine I bought from him.

Maybe you should have spent an extra thousand so you would have received a brand new machine as that is what you are seeking. I did not purposely send you a defective machine. I am not that type of person. I am also not the type of person to expect something to be perfect when it is in used condition. It might cost you $25 to mail it back to Minelab. They mail it back for free. You don't even need to do it now...you could actually go out and enjoy the machine with the module. So, you still can take the machine out and enjoy it. It is really up to you at this point.

I never even had a chance to take the machine out and use it and it's got a problem and you refused to take care of it. I'll remember that Jeff.
No. I am not paying to ship the detector back to Minelab. You would have tp pay if you bought it from me or from Minelab. Again, I sent you a functional detector as far as I am concerned.

I'm talking about if I have to pay for shipping there or back. Thanks
The machine is under warranty.

I need to know if you're willing to make it right in case there any expenses involved in getting the machine fixed. Thanks.
What I am saying is that I have never experienced the problem as I used the module primarily.

So what you're saying is you never plugged headphones into the CTX. And are you telling me that you plugged headphones into it but could never tell that the speaker was working at the same time as the headphones. That was one of the first things I noticed when I started testing it. If you can't tell that I'm a little aggravated about this.
Can't say I ever had that problem, although I rarely, if at all, plugged into the detector. Almost used the module exclusively.

I was wondering if you had any problems with the headphone jack on the CTX? When I plug my phones directly into the CTX I can hear sounds through both the phones and the speaker on the CTX. I used 2 different sets of phones and the same thing happens with both pairs. Thanks.

WOW what a jerk. I would be really upset even if its a $25 fix, hope you have luck getting it sorted out.

I thought someone would have mentioned it, but our reg headphones we have for our other detectors may not work on the CTX and will have both the speaker and headphones on at the same time, but the Koss that come with the CTX works correctly. It has something do do with the wiring and I made a adapter cord so my Gray Ghost Uni Probe would work and my Timber wolfs and also others too. I know many of the headphone companies like Sun Ray made a set of headphones for the CTX and you had to ask for them when you ordered the headphones for a CTX. I wonder if that is your problem as this was a big problem when the CTX came out when we tried using our headphones from our other detectors as Minelab made the CTX different and the phones they send work OK. Last I heard they still make them this way.

Rick

The stock headphones that came with the machine do not work either, I still have the same problem, audio from the speaker when plugged in.

Dan, first I want to say that you are a stand-up guy with whom I have had great dealings with. Personally, I find it hard to believe that the seller did not know there was a problem. He should have offered to paypal you back the amount it would require to fix this problem. Me being the nice guy I am, would have reciprocated by offering to split that cost but by him replying that you should have bought a new one, is a true show of character, more like lack thereof. You may have to bite the bullet on this one Dan but he should be forewarned that his selling days here may become difficult. Flame time in the feedback forum. He should get a temporary ban for his crass handling of the situation. Have you forwarded the conversations on to the moderator/moderators? Good luck with this and I hope it all turns out well for you. Brian:biggrin:

I think I was more upset by his lack of concern for the situation and the fact he wasn't even willing to offer an apology whether he was aware of the problem or not. I got your money so, screw off, it's your problem, not mine attitude bugged me as well.

Yeah some people just don't care about others if they get what they want then they will basically backstab you.

It was the attitude more than anything else, I'm sure Minelab will make it right, it's still under warranty. If not, then I get it fixed regardless.
