I had to do the same thing with my Brand New Ace 350!! Perhaps Garrett needs to Look at there Q Control and not just rush them out the Door!!

[size=large]seems some are limping back still. not near as many as before.

I think A Lot of them are going back due to the waterproof connectors not seating right, and causing the coils to false because THEY are not seated right...

HH,

Talking with some folks at my nearby dealer (one of our sponsors) they say the new run goes back at about the same rate as everything else they sell. Everyone remembers all the trouble from the first run and raises a rucus when anything happens. Truth is every manufacturer has some glitches to make right. They also are selling the Pro and Gold models at a pretty high rate so there are a lot of these units out there.

One guy had to send his new White's in three times the first six months but he wasn't screaming about it on the internet or now everyone would be saying stuff about them as well I guess :). Minelabs have been back, Fishers, you name it but the internet being what it is once a ball gets rolling it can be hard to stop!

My take on it is it seems they dropped the ball on the intro, made it right and now seem to run about the same as the others. I have my wish list like better access to the connectors and they need to be telling owners in the manual about maintaining the seal and o-rings with silicone grease for waterproofing. Keeping the o-rings seated properly while changing coils can be a bit of a pain but that's a minor thing if we could have better access to the connector.

Garrett is at least getting good press on the Customer Service, and I sure cant see anything wrong with the loot y'all are finding...the posts here are informative and helpful to new users. Theres gotta be thousands out there by now...good job for Garrett to see a need in the market, and go after it like they did, and taking care of the Customers!
Full disclosure, I dont own a Garrett....yet!

First of all, what is a lot? If I was making a widget or something and shipped out 100,000 units and half of them came back that would be a LOT!. If a thousand came back that would be one percent, A hundred is one tenth of a percent and so on. I have no idea as to how many units that Garrett has sold and are out in the field let alone how many have been returned to them with problems. So it is speculation to say it is a lot we simply do not know.

Concerning reading a lot about them on this forum, the Garrett forums are place to come if you want to read about Garrett detectors so it stands to reason that problems with a Garrett detector would be posted here rather than say a Whites or Tesoro forum. Once posted, some of the threads can linger for days or weeks as everyone makes their comments so you can be reading about the same detector or instance many times over time. Also there are people who simply do not like Garrett for whatever reason and will cross post the same instance as many forums as they can. This is not speculation, I have seen it many times.

It is unfortunate that anyone has to deal with a malfunctioning anything, a car, TV set, washing machine or metal detector but it happens. I have sent mine in twice, once for an actual problem and the other for the upgrades. The problem I had was not posted here because rather than talk about it for days or weeks, I contacted the people who could actually help me. Garrett has always dealt with any problems in a very professional manner which is main reason why I will continue to do business with them in the future.

I have the ace250 ,,ace350 ,,atpro (gotta get me one of them there atgolds  ) I have not had a problem with any of my Garrets. I take that back,I had to nurse my ace250. I took it swimming one day. once it was totally soaked I went ahead and turned it on to see if it still worked:wacko: It took drying it in the sun with a fan on it for 2 days. It worked fine after that. In my opinion that's a darned good machine! I got my atpro in Feb. I have over 160 hours on it with no problems. I have put over 40 hours on my ace350,and probably another 50 hours of use by different people who have wanted to try detecting, and who have hunted with me. Yea, Garret and I have a good thing going.
