Is ironmask like allmetal mode ?

click on the iron mask button. you should see the iron mask box. if you take all the black out of the box you will be in all-metal. the more black in the box the more iron you have eliminated.

Think of it as a knob... the more you turn up the black the more targets you disc out. Much like a knob style disc would do on other machines.

Thats a big NO Chuck it disc out TARGETS just like the old machines used to do with the knobs. As you increase the dark or disc you will eliminate or null any target within that range.

how do you know what you have tuned out. with the sovereign when i didn't have a lot of time i would run full disc. and dig everything. if i run full ironmask on the explorer it doesn't seem like i have that much tuned out. thanks.

If you have the whole screen blackened out, you may as well be just sitting at home not detecting.....you will have rejected every target underneath your coil. Ironmask is nothing more than a simple way to reject targets. The more masking(blackening) you have on your smartscreen, the more discrimination you have. You could conceivably blacken (mask) out the whole left-half side of your screen, and not notice much difference (you will still hear many targets in the ground)....that's because a very large amount of conductive targets in the ground will hit closer to the right side (from top to bottom) of the smartscreen. Conversely, if you were just to discriminate/mask (blacken) out the right-half side of the smartscreen, you're better off looking for treasure with your eyes instead of your detector.

i guess my question should have been what is discriminated out at full iron mask. it looks like it is less than the factory preset coin screen but even that setting doesn't seem to disc. out very much trash other than iron

Full IM is when the screen is completely DARK and as Dan said EVERYTHING is disc out. The best way to know what you have disc out is take a nickel.... about any target to the left of that isnt worth digging IMO. Thats pretty close to half the screen being blacked out. Take a look at the smartscreen in factory settings..... those to the right of the blackened screen are most of the targets we hunt for. To know what you have disc out ive learned a good many of the digital numbers as well.

One more thing. You asked if IM was like AM. You can go to AM mode in the IM screen by making your screen all clear. The explorer doesnt have TRUE AM. True AM on most machines operate like pinpoint or a pinpointer does. It knows there is a target under the coil but doesnt try to process the target and ID it and normally gives a single tone and is a bit deeper.

i use the xs so the iron mask may be different than on the newer models. i was thinking of the screen you get when you turn the iron mask on. thanks.
