Is coil interchange possible

I was just curious if anyone here has tried another manufacturers coils on different name brand machines. Is this possible or will this interfere with the frequency of the machine.

I doubt it would work very well.

Coils are tuned to specific frequencies and machines. Unless the frequency for the coil was a match for your detector it would be like trying to tune in a radio signal with a mis-matched antenna. You get less signal to the detector if it works at all.

That's why a Whites DFX coil will not work on their 6.59khz machines like the XL Pro. Totally different frequency range.

There is some cases where they can be exchanged,it is mainly the older units, ( teknetics , older whites, some of the bounty hunter/discovery units,) It takes an adapter plug to do it, or changing out the plug.

The plug is the easy part. If no adaptor is available you could just cut and mount a new one.

You still have to deal with the frequency that the coil is designed to work with. If it is not the same as the operating frequency range of your detector, you will not get peak performance. In fact if it is way off, you could even damage the detector as we are talking about transmitted RF energy and a missmatch in frequency between the transmitter (the detector) and the antenna (the coil) will result in a larger amount of the energy being reflected back into the transmitter instead of radiated out (SWR).

i have read your comment on coil changing, and i think i take the
point.i still wonder however if there is a chanche of success in the case of mounting a whites eclipse coil on my trusty old cz6....?
the operating frequensies of the two machines are nearly identical...
5 and 15khz for the fisher whilst the white one has 3 and 15khz...
just wondering
