as a relic machine? I would be interested in any info. or tips on how they are working out.

Thanks, Blink(NY)

for your "relic hunting" in other parts of the country.

Most of the time, regardless of where I am hunting, I do so in the "All Metal" mode but can quickly access Pattern 1 to check targets, or if it gets a little too noisy due to multiple targets.

I like low-end rejection so my Pattern 1 is always set to knock out only -9 and -6 segments. My "relic hunting" consists of searching ghost towns, old town sites, pioneer & military encampments, homesteads, around old dance hall or other recreation sites, etc.

We have some challenging ground and I appreciate the ability of the X-Terra 50 to be able to quickly GB and handle the challenges I face. I find the 4-tone audio ID and the 18 segment and large numeric read-out to be very functional and more than adequate for conveying information.

There are just two things I would like to have that would be 'improvements' for my hunting. One is a smaller-than-stock coil of about 5

Thanks for the info. Monte, you have been very helpful. I enjoy reading the helpful info. you guys post.

Yes very much so use all metals and sensitivity as high as possible.

Listen and watch the numbers both + and - and if in doubt dig it out.Jerry.

Although I consider myself an old coin hunter (meaning a person who hunts for "old coins", not necessarily an "old person" who hunts for coins) I have also found lots of "relics" with both my X-30 and X-50. As posted many times, I hunt in the all-metal mode and let my eyes and ears sort out what I want to dig. Most of the time I simply post the coins that I have uncovered, since that was what I intended to find when I hunted a specific site. What I haven't always shown is the large number of bullets, shell casings, buttons and cuff-link type items that I have found. When you think about it, the only difference in hunting for relics and hunting for coins is the target ID (both audio and visual) that you are anticipating with each sweep. My suggestion would be to turn your detector to all-metal and pass each target type that you hope to find, under the coil. If you don't have "samples" of what you are looking for, then I also suggest digging everything until you get an idea which notch segment each of them will come in at. The explanation of setting your sensitivity and ground balance will be the same with relics as the one I posted here for coin shooters. And, just as with coin shooting, enjoy the hunt! HH Randy

While hunting for relics, if the target is out of ID range, will the unit see it as "iron" meaning minus signals or will it still see it as a + target but possibly lower number? Thanks, John

I am not sure I understand your question John. But if I do, let me say that nothing metal will be out of ID range, as metal is either ferrous or non-ferrous. Generally speaking, ferrous items will read a negative number and non-ferrous items will read a positive number. Granted, there are many more notch segments and ID numbers available for non-ferrous targets. But anything metallic should read either + or - on the target ID segments. Does that answer your question? HH Randy

To quote a " Texas Bush Midget" You Got Er Dugged" The X50 works very well on relics. Tex

Hunting in all metal with it is not like hunting in an all metal on other detectors. You don't have the threshold of the typical all metal mode...instead its like a "silent search" mode with all the discrimination turned to its lowest setting. It's actually quite pleasant to hunt with in all metal vs aggrevating with others.

If you use disc mode though...be sure and edit the Pattern 1 to accept foil range...as buttons can read down there.
