is anyone using satelite internet? Pro's and con's ?

I'm about to give up on my DSL ..:throw::ranting:
It worked great for the first 6 months we lived here
and now it hardly ever works at all.......:angry:

The repair guys have been here so many times I know them all like friends, and they have been great...
tryed all kinds of things including rewiring from the phone ped to my computer with a dedicated wire.
But they tell me even though their company says DSL will work here
the fact is they shouldn't be selling it because the signal is too weak.

I hate the idea of going back to dial-up :rage:
but I'm paying a bunch every month for DSL that isn't much faster than the dial-up....
thats when it works at all.

Your satellite provider offers it, you will still be using dial-up for your uplink. The satellite feed will be the downlink feed. Still faster but your file transfer rate will be slower sending then it will be receiving.

The systems available now work both ways and no phone line is needed.
BUT... they make you buy the equipment and it isn't exactly cheap.
Everything I find on the net is geared toward selling the systems..
That's why I'm looking for someone who is actually using that system.
Hate to invest in it without hearing a real user opinion.
Maybe it's great .... but maybe it sucks ...???

take care Butch !

Mike:
I had it for about 5 years, but just went to bell south DSL on the 3rd of this month. It was costing me $62.99 pr month. Now I am paying $32.00 and it is twice as fast as Hughes was.
I haven't taken down my dish yet in case I won't to go back to them. I think I payed around $350.00 for everything when I bought it
Hope this may help you.
