I'm searching high and low for an XS control box and someone willing to ship it via USPS to Australia, but so far no luck. I've posted WTB ads in the classifieds section, so if anyone hears of one for sale please let me know as i'll be VERY grateful.

I would exhaust every possible option you have for buying one right in Australia. Try every newspaper, pawn shop and so forth. And don't lock in on just an XS, that's way to limiting. Any Sov will work about the same and just because one is older doesn't mean it will be less expensive. Condition often dictates price also, especially on something like the Sov which has a great reputation of being very reliable and trouble free.

Yes, I said XS (any model in the series) as i'm hoping it will be cheaper than an Elite or GT, but as you said condition may dictate the price even more.

I'll continue my hunt. If only there were metal detectors to find metal detectors!
