Is anyone else experiencing a "lag" with the AT GOLD?

When i am scanning the ground it will come across something. It will CHIRP then complete silence for a few seconds. Then resume to scanning. It is extremely frustrating. It usually does it after 2 hours of using the machine. It kind of feels like it can't process everything. Like when your computer is lagging. i tried brand new batteries. It's a huge pain in the neck.

How does it sound with iron audio on?

Well mine don't do that have you tried doing the factory reset? Push and hold your mode button in for 5 seconds till it beeps several times and see if that helps. If not you may have to talk to Garrett customer service which are great and may be able to diagnose your problem.

What you are referring to sounds like a signal overload. I don't know, but you might just be more aware of it after you start getting tired. I suspect the factory will say you should lower the sensitivity setting.

it does seem like a signal overload. like too much metal for the machine to process. it will be reading iron and then it will hit something conductive. Then it will chirp really loud with a scratchy chirp. then it pauses and makes no sounds of any kind for about 4 seconds. even if i move the coil to a different spot. Is that a signal overload? maybe? I know i don't like it. Does this happen on all Garrett at gold and pros?

I am not experiencing it. Are you operating it in an area free of EMI? if you can't resolve it, call Garrett 1 800 527 4011 and speak with Sue.

I hunt with the sensitivity at 6 out of eight and it still does it. even 4 out of 8. same problem. my as well buy a cheap bounty hunter if you go any lower. Right??? i tried all 4 different frequencies. tried everything. I have scoured the forums looking for solutions. auto ground balance goes from 15 to 70. checked chords. hunted today with the coil cover off. chord is wrapped right. tried different and new batteries. did a reset. still same problems. I am detecting out in the country. The nearest farmhouse is about 1000 yards away. so i am pretty sure there is no emi. I have hunted at three old farmhouses like this and they are old for where i live, late 1800s. My machine does not hit silver either. there has to be some there. It loves copper or anything mixed with copper though. all sorts of copper scrap. I hit an indian head at 7 inches, but that was at the edge of the property. Lots of clad, but nothing deeper than 4 inches. these properties were never metal detected. I am the first person in my family to have ever owned a metal detector. they think it's a waste and that i'm crazy. so far, they may be right. everytime it does that loud chirp i get excited because i think it's a silver. because it's a really loud high tone. but go back over it and it either fades out again or shows nothing at all. even with iron audio on. it has complete silence for a few seconds. i don't know what to expect because. nobody i know has a metal detector. and i have been doing my research. but this just seems off to me. the way it performs like this. I don't think it was this way the first day i got it. Which was less than a month ago. I just wanted to make sure this wasn't normal. because i am finding coins. but that's because of the extreme patience and determination i have put into this so far. trying to figure it out.
I will give garrett a call tomorrow. maybe talk to sue.
Thanks for all the help so far,
Les

If the coil wire got loose it could have water in the connection. That happened to one guy. Don't know if it was the same problem, but his was acting up. He disconnected the coil wire and let it dry out. It fixed it.
