Is a Vaquero basically a Cibola with AM and a ground balance knob?

It looks like the Cibola GB mod basically turns the Cibola into a Vaquero. Add a GB knob and threshold based AM to a Cibola and you have a Vaquero, right? So if a Cibola is really good, a Vaquero should be great! If you like ED-120 and you have ED-180 couldn't you just turn the disc up a bit and have ED-120? ... or am I missing something?

Surprised no one else replied ... I have CIbola but haven't had a Vaquero yet. I also have a Tejon.

Appears to be, although some have reported liking the modified Cibola better. They appear to have a programmable chip that is labeled differently although the rest of the circuit card appears to be identical between the CIbola and Vaquero.

One advantage to putting a switch on the rod for a modified Ciboal that allows it to be used for either pinpoint or locked in all metal is that you don't have to change the discrimination level to lock it in all metal like you would with the Vaquero. I modified mine and being able to lock it in all metal without changing the discriminator setting is nice.

Yes. And the Cibola doesn't go to a full all metal at minimum discrimination like the ED180 would imply. I've used it to find bolts I dropped in the gravel and it does not beep strong and smooth at minimum discrimination, it clips the beep a bit. The Tejon and the Compadre I have go to to pretty much all accept on the iron with minimum discriminator setting, so now when I drop a nut or bolt, I grab the Compadre.
