Is a 90+ ID on the F70 ever good?

Hey folks.
When searching some of my trashier sites (F70/11" coil) I'll sometimes get a signal that starts off good, but as I keep swinging the ID will throw in some 90 and greater numbers. It's always been trash. I've never had a solid 90 plus, but still I was wondering if ANY goodies will show an ID of greater than 90, even if bouncing into the 90s.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Wayne,

I use an F75 and so far none of the targets in that range have been keepers. I still dig if I get a good tone and the VID doesn't bounce hoping for a large silver, but so far I've come up empty.
Good Luck!
Mike

I have the F 75, too, and the highest number for the silver dollars I have dug was a lock on 90-91. None of the 3 I've dug were over 5," however. I do continue to dig some of the higher readings, though, in case it might be a dollar on edge or slanted. So, for me, no, to your question. HH jim tn

Wayne id in the 90's trash for me but still dig them. I am digging in the sand so not much of a problem to dig those guys. I can't think of one time when in the 90's that is was a good target. Again never had a lock on 90/91. Usually bouncing all over the place and up to 90's. Safari had the same problem with 90's readings.
Was out this morning and it had rained hard last night. Had settings 45/+8 (my favorite) and it was noisy so went to 30/+9 it did settle down but got noisy when sand started to dry out so switched to 70/-4. Maybe 45/+8 would have worked but just went to 70/-4 to try. Run dis at 15 almost all the time, some times drop it down to 10. I switch between 2F and 3H for tones. The sand usually GG at about 85 to 90.
Thanks for reading.....Z

Thanks guys.

It seems that bouncing numbers that run up into the 90s are (generally) trash, but a solid locking 90-91 could be a keeper. That's kind of what I was thinking. Thanks for your input.

recently....I forget what it was. A belt plate might too, so, yes you have to be a little bit careful on skipping them completely. I find on the iron trash items that shoot up into the 90's, if you check it from all angles, it should drop way down from another direction. I see alotta 94's & 95's on my units on big, wierd shapped iron but only from one direction. If it stays in the high 80's, or 90 from all angles, then you can be pretty confident in a big copper or hunk of silver....
I see this happen alot when hunting in thick iron, so I always figured there might be some of that "up-averaging" going on in 90's numbers....
HH,
Bill

I have found that MOST 90+ signals end up being large junk items. When I encounter a 90+ signal I raise the coil off the ground 4 or 5 inches while sweeping. If the signal remains strong I pass. If the signal diminishes quickly when I raise the coil I dig.

^ That's sound advice Leo. I found a 50 cent piece a few months back that hit 90 on the F70 IIRC, unfortunately it wasn't silver.

next time you get an iffy signal, put your digger in the ground above it loosen the dirt and take another reading to see if the vdi changes

I never seemed to notice that issue, if it was over 90 I just got excited and dug. So I went out and tested it and understand now. Large peices of scrap metal, etc do read in the high 90's, it makes sense. And Leo had very good advice, that seems to work well. However in my testing I did also find that a clad dollar would bounce between 92 and 94. I think thats where leo's advice will come into play.

close to the low iron range that they just mingle at that point, don't really know but what else could it be? HH John

True. I think Mike Hillis had described a kind of overlap phenomenon on another machine (DFX?). Maybe it's doing the same with the F's.

Have you ever dug a silver dime that pretty well locked on 77. I have a couple of times with my F 75 and each time the dimes were quite close to a rust spot. So, from time to time, the same thing could happen with a BIG silver. Although as I've mentioned, I have never dug one with a higher reading then 90-91, but like many of you, I keep trying.:surprised: HH jim tn
